Tourists traveling to Bali’s Nusa Penida are being advised of a shake-up to the payment system for tourism tax and e-tickets.
Tourists traveling to any of the Nusa Islands are advised to bring a combination of both cash and cards.

The Klungkung Regency Government, which oversees the Nusa Islands, has confirmed that it is working to ensure that all relevant e-ticketing fees and tourism taxes are collected in a transparent manner. To prevent funds from being ‘leaked’ or going unaccounted for, the Klungkung Regency Government aims to more strictly enforce the cashless payment system.
The policy change came into effect after the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Klungkung Regency Government, PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Bali, and PT Ctrip Internasional Indonesia on Monday, 21st July.
Speaking to reporters after the signing, the Klungkung Regent I Made Satria emphasized that digitizing fees is an important strategy to reduce the manipulation and leakage of funds that have plagued the management of tourist attractions.
Regent Satria shared, “All transactions are recorded digitally. There’s no longer any room for data manipulation or misappropriation of funds.” Adding “This system makes the management of levies much more transparent and accountable.”
He noted, “In addition to efficiency and transparency, this cashless system also makes it easier for tourists and improves the image of professionalism in Klungkung tourism, especially Nusa Penida.”
Speaking separately, Ni Made Sulistiawati, Head of the Klungkung Tourism Office, explained that this collaboration represents a concrete manifestation of the spirit of electronic financial transactions in the region, in line with national policy.
She shared, “By expanding payment channels and digitizing the recording process, we want to ensure that every rupiah of levies actually goes into regional coffers.”
There are hopes that with the new system, Klungkung Regency can generate IDR 40 billion in tourism taxes and ticketing fees, funds that the local government is clear are needed to help upgrade tourism infrastructure on the island.
Back in April, leaders from Klungkung Regency confirmed plans to build a new road that would make it safer and more efficient for tourists to travel between the world-famous Broken Beach and Angel’s Billabong.
The Head of the Klungkung Office for Public Works, Made Jati Laksana, told reporters that the proposed new road will be just one kilometre in length, and 9 metres wide, and is set to provide safer and direct access between the two iconic landmarks.

Laksana told reporters, “Our initial step is to include this project in the 2025 change budget, while the physical work is planned to be carried out in 2026.”
Tourists traveling to Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan are advised that the fees and tourism taxes are a legal requirement and are not included in the Bali Tourism Tax Levy, nor are they covered by visa fees.

In 2025, all visitors to the Nusa Islands are required to pay the ‘Tourist Retribution Fee’, which is charged at IDR 25,000 for adults and IDR 15,000 for children.
This must be paid on a credit or debit card, though some travel agents and tour providers will include the fee in their package rate, so it is always best to check. The fees are set at the same rate for both domestic and international tourists.

There are additional fees, too, for those who wish to go snorkelling, scuba diving, free diving, or participate in marine tourism activities within the Nusa Penida Marine Protection Area.
This is charged at IDR 100,000 per international visitor. For those staying longer in Nusa Penida and heading out on multiple aquatic adventures, the monthly pass may be a more cost-effective option, charged at IDR 200,000.

And for those tourists who only use cash now and don't use credit or debit cards in Bali any longer because of unauthorized transactions occurring after using them there. 4 card replacements in 4 yrs was enough.

Did I read that right? The digital payment for Nusa Penida tourist taxes to be provided by PT Ctrip International Indonesia?
Ctrip in itself used to be a Chinese company. Is it a China company to manage tourists personal and payment data then?
