Bali’s Nusa Dua Resort Set To Grow With Ambitious Expansion Plans Revealed

Bali may be waiting on a moratorium to ban new tourism developments on the island, but that is not stopping some projects from getting the seal of approval right at the last moment.

Nusa Dua is home to Bali’s highest concentration of five-star hotels and resorts, and it is about to get even bigger. 

The Nusa Dua, also known as the ITDC, has teamed up with a company called PT Paramita Bali Dewata to sign a cooperation agreement to use and develop an allocation of land referred to as RA-C1.

The land spans over 10,418 meters square and is divided into two sub-plots. Lot RA was once the location for the Matsuri Japanese Restaurant and Lot C1 in The Nusa Dua, which is currently undeveloped. 

The new agreement provides an opportunity for PT Paramita Bali Dewata to develop land for mixed-use purposes, including accommodation and commercial purposes, over the next 30 years and an extension option for a further 20 years.

The President Director of The Nusa Dua, Ari Respati, addressed reporters at the press conference about the signing of the cooperation agreement.

He explained, “We are very enthusiastic about this collaboration, which will not only strengthen “ITDC’s position as an important step in our efforts to develop this area into a more dynamic and integrated quality tourism destination but also support local economic growth and provide added value for visitors and the local community.”

Repsati’s sentiments were echoed by Erwin Tanuwidjaja, the President Director of PT Paramita Bali Dewata. He shared, “We are committed to utilizing this land in an innovative and sustainable way.”

Respati added, “We are opening up investment opportunities as widely as possible in the areas managed by ITDC, including The Nusa Dua Bali, The Mandalika, Central Lombok, NTB, and The Golo Mori, West Manggarai, NTT to encourage sustainable tourism development.”

Aside from committing to using the newly acquired land in sustainable ways, no clear plans for the development have been shared.

The masterminds behind the project will have to move quickly to get their project proposals approved, as leaders had promised that new policies that would see a ban on the development of new tourism properties, including hotels and resorts, were due to come into effect by the end of October.

Though few specific details have been revealed about the moratorium policy, leaders have confirmed that the legislation would be brought into effect for two years, with a possibility of an extension to ten years should it be appropriate to do so. 

The Nusa Dua is one of the most popular resort areas in Bali, yet it is not as well known internationally as resorts like Seminyak Canggu, Uluwatu, and Ubud.

With this in mind, The Nusa Dua has been on a mission to attract a wider demographic of travelers to the resort.

Boasting a high concentration of five-star and ultra-luxurious accommodations, pristine white sand, and safe and swimmable shorelines, Nusa Dua makes for a picture-perfect resort vacation destination. 

Speaking earlier this year, the Operations Director of The Nusa Dua, Troy Warokka, told reporters that more promotions on special interest tourism would be launched throughout the year for The Nusa Dua. Warokka and his teams wanted to see more Gen Z tourists visiting the area.

Typically Gen Z tourists visit the iconic backpacking destinations of Seminyak, Canggu, Ubud, the Nusa Islands, and the Gili Islands, but.

Nusa Dua offers younger travelers who aren’t so fussed about the party scene the chance to relax, unwind, and connect with island life in new ways. 

One of the perks of Nusa Dua as a vacation destination is its location. Situated close enough to the airport that there isn’t too much of a drive after landing but far enough away not to be disturbed by aviation traffic, Nusa Dua ticks all the right boxes.

Nusa Dua is also a great launchpad for day trips across the island. Located just 45 minutes from Uluwatu and Sanur and 1.15 hours from Ubud, there is plenty to explore from the shores of Nusa Dua.
