Bali’s Day Trips Are Incredible But There Are Some Details Itineraries Won’t Tell You

Share The Article

Booking day trips in Bali is by far the easiest way to visit all of the island’s most famous landmarks and cultural heritage sites.

Whether booking through an online provider or a local travel agent, multi-stop day trips in Bali can offer crazy good value for money and incredible bucket list adventure, but there are a few details that day trip descriptions often forget to mention.

Arrive At Peak Times – Be Prepared For Crowds

Almost all of the day trips and day tours on offer in Bali and online arrange arrival at the island’s most famous and popular landmarks at peak times.

As many day trip itineraries are offered by hundreds of different providers, this means that hundreds of tourists all follow the same or similar day trip routes all around the same time.

This is not necessarily a bad thing; many of Bali’s most famous destinations can facilitate a large number of visitors, take Uluwatu Temple for example, or the Sacred Monkey Forest, it’s just to say that if you’re booking a day trip on a fixed itinerary schedule, you should be sure to pack your water bottle, your camera and your patience, because there could be queues and crowds at peak arrival times.

Whistle Stop Visits

Multi-stop day trips in Bali, like those which visit Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, Lake Beratan, and Tanah Lot all in one day, are a fantastic way to get great value for money and see a huge swathe of the Balinese countryside and tick off the most iconic sites from your bucket list all in one day.

However, for those tourists and travelers who like to take things slow, these multi-day trips and group tours may not be the best option for you. With a strict itinerary to stick to in order to cram it all in, it’s possible to feel a little rushed at times.

If you know you’re a slow and steady kind of day tripper, be sure to book day trips that visit just one or two sites and allow for heaps to time to really take everything in. If you like your day trips to be action-packed and busy, then be sure to book trips that have plenty going on! There really is a tour for everyone in Bali!

Pick-Up Costs Extra…Sometimes

Many of the Bali day trips and tours offer pick up and drop off to your accommodation included in the price, others, however charge extra.

Be sure to read the fine print of your booking and make sure you’re happy with the final price offered to you before proceeding to payment and confirming your booking.

Tips Not Included

Tips and gratuities are seldom included in a day trip rate, whether you book online, with a travel agent, or directly with a guide and driver. Wages in Bali are low compared to the rising cost of living, and tips are always greatly appreciated.

There is no set rate for tipping; this is at the guest’s discretion, though 10-20% of the tour value is always appreciated, or a straight IDR 100,000 from each guest is generous and impactful to guides and drivers who have facilitated a full-day or half-day tour.

Check Your Insurance Policy

If you are engaging in any kind of adventurous or active activity in Bali, it’s vitally important that you check that your travel and/or medical insurance policy covers that activity.

Activities like snorkeling, diving, ATV riding, and hiking above 2500m, to name but a few, are generally not covered in a standard travel insurance policy.

Most day trips and tours, whether booked online, via an agent, or directly with a driver and guide, do not have personal injury insurance coverage included either. Just be safe!

Some Group Tours Take Really Big Groups

In a similar vein to the advice on whistle-stop visits, some group tours take really big groups of 20-30 people. If this is your vibes, awesome! But if you prefer something a little more intimate, be sure to enquire about private tours or whether small group trips are available for the same itineraries.
