Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport is preparing for a massive rise in the number of tourists over the coming two months.
As school holidays have started around the world, thousands of families will be jetting off to the Island of the Gods to enjoy some fun in the sun.

Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport is Indonesia’s second busiest airport, and General Manager Wahyudi has been speaking to reporters about how he and his teams have prepared for the incoming rise in passenger traffic.
Wahyudi has warned tourists and transport providers that queues and congestion are likely, but that teams are doing all they can to mitigate the issue.
Wahyudi told reporters that anticipatory measures are in place to help reduce queuing and congestion inside the airport terminals, both domestic and international.
He shared with reporters, “Through the use of this technology, the pattern of service fulfillment changes from reactive to predictive and proactive. So it is expected to improve the quality of service during this peak season.”
Wahyudi revealed that during this high season in Bali, travel forecasts show that between 23rd June – 14th July there will be more than 1.6 million passengers traveling through I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, across 9,884 flights.
The peak travel day this school holiday season is set to fall on 6th July 2025, with 78,000 passengers set to travel through the airport, across 460 flights. Wahyudi told reporters, “The increase in the number of passengers has been seen in the last 10 days, where the trend has started to increase, reaching 70,000 to 78,000 passengers.”
He continued, “For the next month, the airport will be more crowded than normal days, which on average serve 61,000 passengers and 378 flights a day.”
Bali Airport is now more connected than ever with a series of new flight services launched in the last few months. Just last week Bali Airport and Indonesia AirAsia celebrated the launch of the new Adelaide-Denpasar flight service. On 26th June the first passengers from Adelaide touched down at I Gusti Ngurah Rai, to a huge celebration.
Speaking to reporters the Deputy for Marketing of the Ministry of Economy, Ni Made Ayu Marthini said “We hope that AirAsia’s Indonesia routes, both international and domestic, can encourage the growth of quality tourist visits from Australia, especially to regenerative and priority destinations such as Bali, Lombok, Labuan Bajo, Medan, Yogyakarta, and others.”
The new flight service will serve 74,000 passengers annually. As Marthini told reporters, “We are optimistic that this route will make a significant contribution to the target of 1.9 million Australian tourist visits this year.”

Tourists traveling to and from Bali Airport are encouraged to check in with the latest travel news from both Bali Airport and their airline before heading to the terminal.
With tensions rising in the Middle East and increasing volcanic activity from Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in the Flores Islands, over the last few weeks, dozens of flights have been delayed, canceled, or changed.

It is not only Bali Airport that will feel extra busy in the coming two months, but also the island’s road network.
Bali’s issues with traffic congestion are no secret, and tourists are advised to be super savvy about traveling by road in order to avoid traffic jams.
Tourists traveling to Bali Airport must leave more than enough time to travel to the terminal and must be prepared to get stuck in traffic congestion, especially if traveling from the resorts of Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Canggu, Ubud, Uluwatu, Nusa Dua, or Sanur during peak travel times.

Tourists are advised to use the Bali Mandara Toll Road, where possible, to ease airport-bound traffic congestion on the roads.
Tourists arriving in Bali are also reminded that travel time from the airport to their hotel or accommodation will be longer than online maps and GPS apps suggest.
