The tourism association in Pemuteran, Buleleng has admitted that they’re getting tired of the false hope that they have been receiving from the government.
The Head of the Travel Conscious Group (Pokdarwis) Segara Giri Pemutera, I Ketut Sutrawan Selamat admitted that most of the tourism businesses in the northern Bali region have been waiting for the reopening of the international travel corridor for Bali. He also complained about the inconsistency of the government’s policy that tends to change without any notice before implementing.
Many of the accommodation businesses that started to receive some reservations in June 2021 were disappointed when the government suddenly implemented the emergency partial lockdown in the beginning of July 2021. “We had already finished our preparations and promoted our businesses until we finally received some bookings in June, but when the delta variant of Coronavirus struck, the government immediately changed the policy. So it comes across like we’re not professional as we have to constantly change the information we give to our clients.” Selamat said.
He explained that many businesses decided to give up their assets in order to pay their workers. Meanwhile, the Spokesman of Buleleng Covid-19 Handling Task Force, Ketut Suwarmawan said that authorities have been preparing all the infrastructure before Bali can finally reopen its border for international visitors. “We’ve been preparing a better infrastructure such as implementing a tracing app called PeduliLindungi in all our tourist spots and assuring that all the prevention protocols are properly implemented while waiting for reopening instruction from central and provincial government.” Suwarmawan said.

The super-rich business owners dream about the flood of easy money to be made on the back of tourism, while neglecting the fact that Balinese workers starved on low wages even during the height of mass tourism. Time for politicians to rethink the economy and begin retraining workers with other practical skill sets. There is a solution to the political corrupt who support a tourism only economy, simply put, you take the money and power away from those who are small minded and ruthless and instead empower those who generate less selfish ideas. Like it or not, mass tourism as it was is a dead industry, time to think about a better future for the masses.

So what's new...some countries are doing the same exact hesitancy to reopen fully to the world. A one day at a time approach. Tomorrow may spell a different covid story crisis. If everyone is on the same page then perhaps we can all live with covid and open up borders.

I agree Bali should open slowly to foreign tourist but with strict order of operating system regarding the spread of Covid 19.
