Bali Immigration Services Reopen After National Holidays

Indonesia’s Immigration Offices are back up again after the national public holidays. Offices formally opened their doors again on the 8th of April, and now that the big rush has subsided, tourists and expats can easily access immigration services. 

Immigration Offices and online services in Indonesia closed down for a full week over the Nyepi and Eid holidays. The Acting Director General of Immigration, Saffar M. Godam, confirmed that the Directorate General of Immigration is once again fully operational and ready to provide optimal public service.

He told reporters “We conducted unannounced inspections at 12 immigration offices today. Alhamdulillah, services are running smoothly, with all officers and facilities in place.”

He confirmed that on Tuesday 8th April alone, 12,770 applications for visas and residence permits were processed. Between 28th March and 7th April, during the national holiday period, 217,695 visa applications were submitted through Indonesia’s online system.

Visa applications, residence permit applications, and extensions applied for by foreigners through the evisa.imigrasi.go.id online portal between 28th March and 7th April 2025 have been queued and will be processed in order. 

Godam explained “We ensured that all applications submitted during the holiday period were processed swiftly and transparently. Public service is our top priority, regardless of the holiday.”

Godam reiterated that though all Immigration Offices were closed for the public holiday period, limited emergency services remained available for Indonesian nationals and foreigners in the country.

He told reporters “Emergency requests—such as urgent medical care or the death of a close relative overseas—were accommodated. Applicants were required to submit supporting documents.”

Tourists who have made their visa applications, residence permit applications, and/or extension applications online will be notified via email when their application has been processed. Godam confirmed that all services are operating again as usual and did not make any announcements regarding changes in processing times.

Tourists should look on the evisa.imigrasi.go.id for projected processing times for their application category and contact Immigration should their application have not been returned to them in that time period. 

Applying for an Indonesian visa, residence permit or extension has never been easier. All tourist visa categories, as well as socio-cultural visas, can be applied for and extended entirely online via the evisa.imigrasi.go.id online portal. The website is available in English and though does work on mobile, is best used on desktop, and without any ad-blockers or VPNs.

For most tourists visiting Bali for a vacation or travel experience the most appropriate visa is the eVisa on Arrival or the Visa on Arrival. The only difference between the two is that the eVisa on Arrival is applied for online prior to landing in Indonesia, and the Visa on Arrival is applied for upon arrival at an international airport in Indonesia, such as Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai. 

The eVoA and VoA are available for tourists from over 90 countries, including Bali’s most frequent international arrivals, Australia, China, the United States, New Zealand, UK, France, Germany, Netherlands, Canada and more.

The visa costs IDR 500,000 and is valid for 30 days. The visa can be extended one time only, and this process can also be completed entirely online. Tourists should remember to extend their visa with plenty of time to spare on their first 30-day period.

Though extensions should only take 3-5 days to process, extensions must be submitted before the first 30-day period expires. Overstaying is a criminal offense and can lead to fines, or even deportation.
