Bali Has Averaged About 500 Domestic Visitors Per Day During The Partial Lockdown

Officials from the Bali Tourism Agency have confirmed that the number of domestic visitors in Bali has dropped to around 500 visitors per day.

The Head of the Bali Tourism Agency, I Putu Astawa said that among the total of 900 people who gained access to the island each day, only less than half of them came for traveling purposes in Bali. “According to our data, among 800 to 900 people who have been entering Bali each day, only 500 of them who came for traveling since the partial lockdown was implemented in the beginning of June 2021.” Astawa said on Monday (16/8).

 Astawa explained that the majority of domestic visitors who came to Bali were from Jakarta, Lombok, Surabaya and Sulawesi. Prior to the partial lockdown, Bali would receive around 7,000 to 10,000 visitors each day. “We used to receive around 10,000 visitors each day before partial lockdown was implemented in Bali and Java, we even received over 13,000 visitors when the Work From Bali (WFB) Program was implemented, but now it has significantly dropped by about 88%.” Astawa added.

    However Astawa was still optimistic that the situation will soon be back to normal once the Covid-19 vaccine is distributed to 70% of Bali’s population in the near future. “According to the standard from WHO, we will achieve  herd immunity once we complete the vaccine distribution to at least 70% of Bali’s population, which is predicted to finish by September 2021.” Astawa concluded. He also plans to improve procedures in handling  international visitors upon their arrival at the Bali Airport once the international travel corridor reopens. Apart from that, Astawa reminds the central government to carefully select the countries before implementing the travel bubble program, and prioritize the countries who have rapidly distributed Covid-19 vaccines before removing travel restrictions.
