Bali Governor, I Wayan Koster has instructed all the village officials across the island to stop providing public services to those who refuse the Covid-19 vaccine.

The instruction that was announced on Sunday (11/7), stated that officials in every village in Bali are required to mark their residents who refuse to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. “I instructed all village officials to stop providing any kind of public services to their residents who don’t support the vaccination program.” Koster said on Sunday (11/7).

As one of the efforts from the provincial government to revive Bali’s economy from the current crisis caused by the pandemic, Covid-19 vaccines are currently being distributed to the Bali population. From a total of 4 million residents, only 3 million are expected to receive the vaccine due to the physical condition of the other 1 million people. Koster explained that 85% of those 3 million people have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, while the other 25% have already completed the full vaccination.

Bali Officials have confirmed that the majority of Covid-19 patients in Jembrana haven't received the Covid-19 vaccine prior to infection.

In the meantime, Koster keeps on reminding the people to support the vaccine distribution, so the program can be finished on track. “I hope the people will follow all of the instructions, so we can end this pandemic sooner.” Koster added. He also warned the people to stop trusting the wrong information about the Covid-19 vaccine, although he admitted that some people might still get infected with Covid-19 post vaccination.

“People could still get infected with Covid-19 after the injection, but they would have a lower chance to develop heavy symptoms or even death from the virus.” Koster concluded.

It seems not to be conform with international human rights.

@e.karssen, the reason people have died world wide and in Indonesia because many are not vaccinated. Furthermore investing elsewhere due to a draconian vaccination measure would not help the situation. Giving a pink slip to the employees would drag people further down into poverty.

@Carolyn Tyler, any personal outgoing business decision making that is about Bali will NOT make any difference to the local economy despite the local government vaccination initiatives.

However a personal decision to get vaccinated is a personal one to make and not the government's. But as long as billions of people in the whole wide world are not vaccinated, the chances are that the virus will mutate and new deadly variants will emerge. It will be tough on the world's economy as long as covid-19 is not contained don't you think??

A major barrier to controllibg Indonesia's outbreak is the flood of misinformation. For month, messages on a popular media platform have spread fake news about ineffective covid treatments. Conspiracy theories about the vaccines in general have circulated like wild fires on social media, prompting some people unwilling to take the jab for fear it could cause serious disease or death. Amid all the misinformation, warnings about the severity of Covid -19 are kept to a minimal.

The above problem of misinfornation has been going on in the West particularly in the US. The majority of anti-vaxxers and anti-mask wearing are in the stronghold Republican States. Guess what cases of the delta variants are rising among young unvaccinated people in Florida. Why cry over spilt milk now...

@Wayan Bo, those folks in Singapore who have chosen the Chinese vaccines would not be counted in their tally. Furthermore privileges in several sectors for those vaccinated with chinese vaccines could be withhold.

Violation of human rights exist in every corner of the world and sometimes in places you least expected.
