In response to public concern, the Denpasar City Government has revealed why it has installed unsightly zinc fencing around properties that were previously used as cafes and tourist hangouts at Duyung Beach in Sanur.

The Denpasar City Government has confirmed that it is funding and constructing a new public park and a series of public amenities in the area. Concerned citizens voiced their dismay at the appearance of the zinc fence outside disused tourism buildings.
With Sanur undergoing a huge transformation over the last few years, some of which local residents have approved of and much that has been a cause for concern, the Denpasar City Government decided to reveal a few more details about what they have in store.
Residents were concerned that since the zinc fencing was installed and no public notice was attached, some kind of illegal tourism-related construction was happening behind it, an all too common occurrence in Bali at the moment.
However, the park and public facilities that Denpasar City Government have announced they will be creating, have not been communicated to the Sanur Traditional Village Authorities.
The Head of the Traditional Village, Gusti Agung Alit Kencana, told reporters clearly, “Ask the Mayor directly. The Mayor has a policy. We don’t know at all; the traditional village is not involved there.”
Reporters in Denpasar were able to secure a confirmation from the Denpasar Mayor himself, I Gusti Ngurah Jaya Negara, who said the area will be arranged by the city government and that the area will be used as a park and public facility.
Mayor Jaya Negara added that this development is planned to begin in 2025 with funds from the revised APBD [local government budget]. He added, “[This] will be arranged by the City Government for parks and public facilities. The plan is to change [it].”
The reason for the zinc fencing, which many feel is unsightly, is to block the view of the ‘shabby’ buildings behind and secure the area for upcoming construction work, though no set date has been announced.
Big changes are finally coming to life in Sanur. Earlier this month, Bali International Hospital gave a first look at the inside of the new world-class medical facility. Bali International Hospital will be a private medical facility for both Indonesian nationals and international medical tourists.
The aim of the development is to offer more top-level medical care in Indonesia, encourage more Indonesian nationals to pursue medical care nationally rather than traveling to neighboring medical tourism destinations like Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, and promote Bali as a medical tourism destination for international patients.
The hospital is taking center stage in the newly established Sanur Special Economic Zone, and there have been plenty more upgrades and new additions to Bali’s OG coastal resort, including the opening of ICON Bali Mall, the rebrand of the Grand Inna Beach Hotel to become The Meru and Bali Beach Hotel, The Heritage Collection.

The Bali International Hospital is set to open its doors officially in April 2025, and the facility is already taking bookings for medical screening packages, starting at as little as IDR 3,500,000.
The hospital will offer full spectrum and integrated medical care in Cardiology, Oncology, Neurology, Gastrology, and Orthopedics. There will be a full emergency department, intensive care unit, and private ambulance service, too.

The integrated oncology services are set to be the best in the region and will offer radiation therapy using LINAC and 3D brachytherapy, 3 Tesla MRI machines for high-quality diagnostic imaging, as well as modern laboratory systems that ensure the Bali International Hospital’s diagnostic capabilities meet international standards.
In terms of radiology, the hospital will also offer Bali’s first mammogram facility.

Bali International Hospital will also offer fully integrated hospitality for medical tourists traveling to Bali. This will ensure a seamless experience for patients receiving medical care, holistic wellness treatments, and hospitality care.

We have been hearing for more than a year that the land is privately owned and would be developed into a beach club and hotel. If this announcement of a public park is true, we will all be delighted. The last thing a "special economic zone for health & wellbeing needs is a beach club & another beachfront hotel. Public space will ready attract families and tourists will love it. Great for our community, our environment & our local economy

People have to watch everywhere they walk in Denpasar. The footpaths are a disgrace. Don't ever try walking at night on the bypass road. Whole sections missing and no warning signs

Well, that's finally a good idea! I was worried that they built a beach club or something else useless in this area. But a public park is actually a nice and unexpected surprise. Just the communication could have been better...

@Taime, Misinformation and lies is common. A public park on prime land sounds unlikely as the leaders only care about money. If a beach club is coming it is going to ruin life for nearby hotel guests and villa residents. These venues tend to be unbearable in a radius of many hundred meters.

@Roi Koi, it’s going to be a beach club. I have spoken to a one of the family who sold the land 12 years ago. The now owners were suppose to start building before covid but put it on hold. The restaurants always knew they had to leave and were given year by year extensions. I think the “park” announcement is only to placate the public. When the uproar dies down that’s when you can expect them to start building.

The Denpasar govt needs to fix the footpaths in Sanur which are a disgrace and cause countless injuries. Some street lightng is also needed. With all the taxes collected from the area, one would have to ask where are they spending the money?

@Jim, with all the taxes "collected" from the area... ya you got it right :)
