The head of Padangbai Office and Port Authority has announced that the fast boat to Gili Trawangan has reopened for tourists.
“The fast boat to Gili Trawangan can be accessed now, but at the beginning of reopening I haven’t seen that many tourists. So we are only operating one fast boat at this time” said Port Authority Head, Ni Luh Putu Eka Suyasmin
Suyasmin said that although it has been slow they will keep the service operating using the one fast boat three times per week.
According to the data there were only 50 passengers on average that have been using the fast boat service each week. Right now its only domestic tourists or expats still living in Bali.
The ferry that transports passengers and vehicles from Padangbai to Lembar Port, West Nusa is still operating but still has very few passengers. “Only a few people take the ferry transportation nowadays, there were not more than 100 passengers each day” Suyasmin added.
He hopes that travel restrictions will be lifted soon and said that businesses and employees are ready to implement all the prevention protocols.
Many people who live in the Padangbai area have lost their jobs and are hoping that tourism will return. Most fast boat companies were forced to suspend their operations when the pandemic started.
