Bali Airport’s Coffee Bar Connects Tourists With Island’s Talented Baristas

Indonesian coffee is some of the best coffee in the world, and you only have to step into your second or third coffee shop in Indonesia to realize that the baristas of this land are world-class; the first cafe you visited was not an exception to the rule!

Coffee lovers in Bali are utterly spoilt, and the island’s coffee culture has just been given a boost to the center of the tourism stage, where it rightly belongs.

Expat Coffee Roasters has just opened a new coffee shop in Bali’s domestic arrivals hall. This means that the moment passengers touch down from their domestic flight, they can roll right on into one of Bali’s finest coffee roasters and coffee shop chains. Even those arriving on an international flight can pop in, it’s only a few minutes walk!

The 93 square meter coffee shop and brew bar offers not only an incredible menu of coffee choices but also an interactive barista experience. Expat want to bring Bali’s coffee culture to life the moment you touch down in the province.

Speaking to reporters at this week’s launch event Expat. Roasters Founder & CEO Shae MacNamara shared, “The opening of Brew Bar Expat at Ngurah Rai Airport is an important step for us. It’s not just about serving coffee, but also offering a Balinese welcome to tourists who have just arrived on the island, connecting them with Balinese coffee culture.”

The space feels open, welcoming, and incredibly cool. The architectural design is a collaboration between Wilson Harkhono of WHAstudio and X along with O Design Studio from Sydney, inspired by the natural beauty and culture of Bali, combining typical Balinese elements in a refreshing modern style.

The Brew Bar Expat. Roasters at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport is part of a growing expansion, with two other locations in Bali at Jalan Petitenget in Seminyak and Beachwalk Shopping Mall in Kuta as well as in four locations in Surabaya, at Graha Family, Juanda International Airport, Hokky Buah Citraland, and Dharmahusada, East Surabaya.

Expat has also made a name for itself in Jakarta, at the Mori Building, Sudirman, Central Jakarta, and has also opened a location in Makassar, located right at the Center Point of Indonesia.

Yande, one of the baristas at the new Bali Airport Expat Brew Bar, told reporters, “At Ngurah Rai Airport, Expat serves a variety of specialty coffee choices such as Patria, Nomad, and single-origin coffee from Bali’s Kintamani, complemented by a selection of Cold Brew in practical packaging that is suitable for tourists. Since the beginning 8 years ago, we have supported local coffee from Bali, Aceh Gayo, Toraja, West Java.”

For those travelers not passing through the domestic airport terminals, there are still plenty of opportunities for good coffee in the international terminal, too.

The much loved Canggu and Seminyak-based cafe Revolver has found a home in the international departures area and even offers a full food menu throughout the day and night.

Leaders are on a mission to elevate the passenger experience at Bali’s international and domestic terminal. These improvements are being developed in both big and small ways.

In addition to the opening of the Expat Brew Bar, Bali Airport has also recently opened a new pedestrian bridge in the domestic terminal area, making it safer and more direct for passengers to travel through the terminal.

Notable changes in the international arrivals hall have included the implementation of a new taxi pick-up system.

The new dedicated counter is making it easier for arrivals seeking a taxi ride to queue safely and hail a ride. Previously, the arrivals area of the international terminal felt frantic and confusing, with taxi drivers waiting for pre-booked journeys and standing in the same area as taxi drivers offering their services.

The General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, told reporters, “Regarding the plan to create a special counter for land transportation business partners, this is one of the points discussed in the consolidation.”

“The plan is for a special counter for land transportation business partners to be located near the information counter at the international arrival terminal.”

“Our initiative was welcomed by business partners because it will make it easier for them to offer their services.”
