Can you believe it? Christmas is just around the corner! For those who will be in Bali for the big day, there are so many wonderful ways to celebrate the occasion.
While Christmas is a public holiday in Bali, all of the island’s favorite hotels, restaurants, and cafes will be opening their doors on the 25th of December to spread some festive cheer.
Whether you want to celebrate Christmas with a giant roast dinner, Balinese-style fried rice, a bucket of ice-cold beers on the beach, or an extra large smoothie bowl after an early morning surf, you can do Christmas your way in Bali.
Whether you’re in Canggu or Nusa Dua, Ubud or Jimbaran, if you’re in the festive spirit, there will be lunch, dinner, or an extra special event waiting for you.
With Christmas and New Year famously being one of the busiest times of the year in Bali, it is essential to book ahead if there is a restaurant, cafe, or dining experience that you really have your heart set on visiting.
Most of Bali’s tourist restaurants, cafes, and eateries have a digital booking system, normally accessible either through their Instagram page or via their Google Business or GoogleMaps listing.
There are so many different events happening; these are a few that caught our attention. Our top tip is to look to hotels and restaurants for special Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day lunches, dinners and special events, and look to the island’s biggest and best beach clubs for the New Year’s Eve parties.
Let’s start the festive adventure in Canggu, Bali’s hottest vacation destination right now. COMO UMA Canggu will be hosting a series of Festive Feasts including a Christmas Day Lunch, hosted from 12pm until 3pm at the COMO Beach Club, and guests are invited to enjoy a family-style Christmas Day lunch, and live entertainment. Booking is essential with the lunch costing IDR 88,000 per person.
The festive feasts will be held throughout the holiday season, including the Lazy Grazing Sunday Brunch on 29th December, where guests can indulge in a lavish brunch between 11am and 3pm accompanied by breathtaking views of Echo Beach.
Hopping over to Kuta for a real rock and roll Christmas celebration at the world-famous Hard Rock Hotel.
Taking bookings now, Hard Rock Hotel is inviting hotel guests and non-residents to “Enjoy a delicious spread of traditional favorites and festive desserts, accompanied by Christmas choir and a special visit from Santa Claus.”
With dinners priced at IDR 685,000++ per adult and IDR 342,500++ per child, including a complimentary soft drink or juice, guests will be truly spoilt.
Guests can elevate their experience with Hard Rock’s exclusive free-flow alcohol package as an upgrade deal for IDR 500,000++. Bookings can be made by sending a direct message via the Hard Rock Hotel Bali Instagram page.
Up in Ubud, the festive cheer will reign across Bali’s arts and culture capital. The simply stunning Bambu Indah Resort will also be hosting a series of festive meals that are not to be missed.
On Christmas Eve, the resort will offer an exclusive dining-for-two experience at the River Warung or at Tembaga Restaurant…take your pick.
The dinner promises to be more than a Christmas celebration but a celebration of the earth itself as guests will dine amongst the resort’s immaculately kept edible gardens, surrounded by stunning rice paddies and with the river flowing in the distance.
On Christmas Day, with limited opening hours for non-guests, Bambu Indah Resort will celebrate the water element with a Christmas Day Riverside Brunch hosted at the resort’s natural spring pools.
The feast is set to feature fresh fish, grilled meats, the finest salads and vegetable dishes, and more.
While Indonesia is a majority Muslim nation, and Bali is a majority Balinese Hindu province, Christmas is still widely observed on the islands, and the festival is observed as a public holiday.
Tourists should be prepared for some venues and attractions to have limited opening hours during the public holiday; this may include opening later or closing earlier. Services like Grab, GrabFood, GoJek, and GoJek Food will still be available throughout the holiday.
