The beachside resort of Jimbaran in Bali could be on track to become Bali’s greenest luxury escape.

Located just minutes from Bali Airport along a quiet patch of the central southern coast, Jimbaran is a destination seriously looking to compete with the likes of Nusa Dua and Seminyak…only greener. 

The company Jimbaran Hijau has just won top awards at the Badung Investment Awards 2024. The company came in first place for Large-Scale Business, Short Video Competition for Investment Promotion, and Partnership Appreciation with MSMEs.

As a pioneer in the eco-tourism space, Jimbaran Hijau was praised by provincial leaders for encouraging sustainable development and environmentally friendly tourism in Bali.

Jimbaran Hijau is on a mission to develop a comprehensive tourism blueprint that supports sustainable tourism development in Jimbaran to bring benefits to tourists, local communities, businesses, and the landscape.

Jimbaran Hijau is the mastermind behind the Green Jimbaran Concept, which is a cross-sector project to re-green the Jimbaran resort area and develop sustainable initiatives that bring widespread improvements to the area. 

This will also include the creation of Natadesa Resort Residence, an eco-residential complex in the heart of Jimbaran.

The founder and CEO of Jimbaran Hijau, Putu Agung Prianta, spoke to reporters after the awards ceremony and explained, “This award is real evidence of our commitment to building Jimbaran as a destination that not only attracts tourists but also contributes to environmental sustainability. With this step, we hope to inspire more sustainable development in Bali and Indonesia.”

Part of the success of a business like Jimbaran Hijau and the Green Jimbaran Concept is that it plays directly into the Bali Provincial Government’s mission to promote sustainable and culturally respectful tourism.

Prianta has previously explained, “Tourism is the lifeblood of Bali, but it must be managed carefully. A comprehensive blueprint will help guide the development of the industry, ensuring that growth does not come at the expense of Bali’s natural and cultural resources.”

He added, “Bali’s future depends on our ability to work together and create a vision that prioritizes both growth and sustainability. A well-crafted blueprint will serve as a roadmap for Bali to thrive in the global tourism market while preserving its natural and cultural assets.”

Jimbaran Hijau has brought together the likes of Raffles Bali, Puri Bhagawan Bali, Damara Village, Locca Sea House, and more to rethink how Jimbaran can develop as a tourism resort in a way that reflects the high standards expected by tourists and the increasing pressure to support the local landscape. 

The efforts, both collective and individual, are starting to pay off. In October 2024, Raffles Bali, located in Jimbaran, was named among the best hotels in the world.

In a press statement following the award announcement, the Director of PR and Marketing Communications at Raffles Bali, Ricky Utomo, shared, “We haven’t just built a resort; we’ve created a gateway to the soul of Bali.”

He noted, “Half of our 23-hectare property remains undeveloped to serve as a sanctuary for native flora and fauna.”

As a designation, Jimbaran is perhaps best known for its world-famous seafood restaurants; located right on the beachfront, Jimbaran is both a traditional fishing community and a tourism resort.

Jimbaran is far more low-key and laid back than the buzzing and sometimes pumping resorts of Seminyak and Canggu, making it an ideal location for a chilled-out, lazy days beachside vacation.

Jimbaran is home to an impressive collection of luxury hotels to choose from, including award-winning Raffles Bali, Le Méridian, Keraton Jimbaran Resort, and Mövenpick Resort & Spa Jimbaran Bali.

While Jimbaran Beach and Kedonganan Beach are the most famous beaches in the area, hidden gems like Sempaning Beach, Honeymoon Beach, and Pantai Muaya are not to be overlooked.
