The Indonesian National Council for Special Economic Zones has revealed that the Health Special Economic Zone in Sanur is now among the country’s top five best areas.

The Sanur has received over IDR 2.29 trillion in investment and is set to be fully operational in 2025.

The Sanur will offer world-class integrated medical tourism and wellness facilities for medical tourists, expats, and privately paying Indonesian residents.

In a written statement published this week, the Acting Secretary General of the National Special Economic Zone Council, Rizal Edwin, said, “The Sanur Special Economic Zone is now ready to operate in less than three years.”

The Sanur is the county’s first Special Economic Zone for Health and has been placed in fourth place overall and second place in the services category.

One of the goals of The Sanur is to offer medical tourists a place to get the care they need and take all the time they need to recover in an environment that fully supports healing.

This is why The Sanur is also focusing on developing wellness services and a range of lifestyle services, including shopping malls and entertainment outlets, to ensure that guests have everything they need for the duration of their stay in Bali, no matter how short or long that may be.

Construction on The Sanur Special Economic Zone began in December 2021 and has employed a team of over 2,800 construction workers to bring the project to its final phase.

The development has also seen the construction of the Bali International Hospital, which will open its doors for its first patinas in early 2025. The hospital will specialize in everything from oncology to cardiology, neurology, gastroenterology, and more.

The Sanur spans over 41 hectares of prime Sanur real estate and received an IDR 938 billion in investments in 2024 alone.

The President Director of PT Hotel Indonesia Natour, one of the companies behind the development, shared her praise for The Sanur becoming a pioneer in inclusive and sustainable health tourism.

Christine Hutabarat explained, “We are optimistic about continuing to contribute to supporting national economic growth and becoming an international medical tourism destination.”

At present, Bali’s position as a medical tourism destination is small in comparison to neighbouring destinations like Bangkok and Chiang Mai in Thailand, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, and Singapore.

Most medical tourists heading to Bali do so for dentistry, affordable basic optician care and glasses, and some non-surgical cosmetic producers.

The opening of The Sanur will see Bali catapulted onto the world stage as a medical tourism destination and luxury wellness destination.

Hospital-Ward-Corridor

It is not only the Bali International Hospital that will offer medical services to patients. International clinics, private physicians, and therapies will also be opening up practices in The Sanur to once again offer full spectrum medical and wellness services to medical tourists.

Offerings already announced for The Sanur include cell therapy clinics, aesthetic and plastic surgery clinics, fertility clinics, eye clinics, and hair transplant clinics.

Hospital-Staff-at-Reception-Counter

The Sanur will offer seamless integrative services for guests, enabling the flow from airport pick-up to accommodation, medical appointments, recovery, and rejuvenation, all to be managed from one core destination.

The Sanur is home to two major five-star hotels and a series of luxury villas and accommodation parks. The on-site exhibition halls can accommodate 5,000 people and are set to host medical conferences and international summits.

The whole site sits right on Sanur Beachfront, offering guests an unrivaled experience when it comes to medical tourism, wellness, and luxury travel.

Modern-Hospital-Room

The opening of The Sanur is not set to impact the hotels and resorts already existing along Sanur Beach. The original resort of Sanur will remain a laid-back, family-friendly vacation retreat right on the shores of some of Bali’s most safe-to-swim coastline.

Leaders are also already discussing new methods of traffic management to ensure that the increased level of tourism traffic in the area does not negatively impact tourists or local communities traveling around the Denpasar City area.
