Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport has revealed official figures on the number of travelers who have passed through the airport so far this year.
In the first six months of 2024, Bali Airport has proven that it is on track to smash annual tourism targets by December.
Official figures show that between January and June 2024, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport served 11 million passengers, making the transportation hub one of the busiest airports in Indonesia.
Incredibly, the highest number of passenger movements occurred in June 2024, with a total of 2,075,255 domestic and international passengers passing through the airport, on a total of 11,575 aircraft movements.
Speaking to reporters General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura I I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport Handy Heryudhitiawan, said “Compared to the number of passenger services in the first semester of 2023, passenger services in the first semester of 2024 have increased quite well.”
Looking at the figures in closer detail, H said that in the first half of 2024, the number of passengers increased by 16% compared to the same period in 2023, when the airport served 9,743,788 passengers.
June was the busiest month so far, but it only beat May by 1%. In June, the airport served 2,060,098 passengers and had 11,918 aircraft movements.
The Ngurah Rai Airport passenger demographic can be broken down into 4,696,929 domestic passengers and 6,562,090 international passengers. The average daily service reaches 74,563 passengers.
Heryudhitiawan also explained that Ngurah Rai Airport currently operates 22 domestic flight routes served by 11 airlines and 36 international routes served by 39 airlines.
The domestic route with the highest number of flights recorded in 2024 was Jakarta (CGK), with 2,304,112 passengers and 14,488 flights. It was followed by Surabaya, which served 705,105 passengers on 4,428 flights, and Makassar, with 256,042 passengers and 1,829 flights.

As for international routes, the busiest services, unsurprisingly, are between Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Perth.
Singapore recorded the highest number with 1,337,548 passengers over 6,549 flights, followed by Kuala Lumpur which served 861,749 passengers on 5,277 flights and Perth which recorded 494,757 passengers on 3,292 flights between January and the end of June.
While visitor numbers are showing a positive trend, some travel trends in Bali are unchanging. The data shared by Bali Immigration Offices shows that Australian citizens were the highest foreign arrivals in the first half of 2024, with 724,311 passport holders touching down at Bali Airport.
Followed by Indian citizens with a total arrival of 284,699 people, and Chinese citizens with a total arrival of 231,094 people.
Heryudhitiawan has confirmed that there are plans to operate yet more flights in the second half of the year.
He explained, “We can say that there are plans to add routes to various international destinations in the second semester of 2024. We are always coordinating with airlines to explore the possibility of adding connectivity on the island of Bali.”
Newly introduced flights to the schedule in the last 6-months include are direct flights to Bengaluru in India by Indigo airline, the direct flight service to Canberra by Batik Air airline, a daily service to Abu Dhabi by Etihad Airways.
Heryudhitiawan also confirmed that plans are fully steam ahead for the upcoming Bali International Air Show in September. He said the party is also preparing to welcome the Bali International Air Show event next September.
“This is the first time in 28 years that an international air show has finally been held again in Indonesia. With the Bali International Air Show event, which is planned to be held in September, we hope it can attract people to visit the island of Bali.”

It's normal there's been another pull back by dps officials the tax is going. Just another mad mad mad thing said and done by bali great officials then retracted once they realise they Muppet speak and do. It's certainly a laugh a minute in the best holiday place in the world not counting its only a domestic flight wa to dps.

I kindly suggest to paint official taxis of same color or putting a light on the taxi roof. Too many unofficial cars and too many strange people offering rides in the airport TK

@Sergio, Agree. The airport management has lost control on those loitering and crowding around arrival area -- just waiting to find unsuspecting foreigners to scam. It is a real annoyance but also a security and safety issue.
