New Direct Flight Service Connects Australian Tourists With Beloved Bali

Share The Article

Australian tourists have just been given yet more ways to get to Bali for the vacation of their dreams.

Low-cost airline Batik Air has just launched a new direct flight service from Canberra to I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.

This is one of many new services added to the schedule this high season.

Speaking to reporters, the Head of Aviation Canberra Airport, Michael Thomson, said, “This is exciting news for Canberrans and residents of the wider region.”

He added, “Direct flights to Bali not only offer easy access but also open up opportunities to explore various interesting destinations in Indonesia.”

The new Batik Air flight service between Canberra and Denpasar will operate three times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

A press statement issued by Canberra International Airport said, “The arrival of Batik Air offers Canberrans, and a million others in the wider region, access to a global network of more than 50 destinations, including Hong Kong, China, Malaysia and India.”

The airport adds, “Canberra is Batik Air’s fifth Australian destination and the airport’s second international airline, with Fiji Airways offering a direct service to Nadi three times a week.”

When the new flight service was first announced back in February, the Group Strategy Director for Batik Air, Chandran Rama Muthy, revealed that the airline is on a mission to connect Canberra with iconic destinations across Indonesia, not just Bali.

There are plans to offer services to Labuan Bajo, Lombok, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Jakarta, Makassar, and Manado in the near future too.

Muthy said, “Our objective is not only to attract travelers from Canberra to Bali but also to unveil exciting opportunities for exploration in Indonesia’s diverse secondary destinations, which are served by Lion Air.”

“We are dedicated to enhancing connectivity and making travel more accessible for passengers from Australia and Indonesia, and this new route reaffirms our dedication to that objective.”

This is not the only new service from Australia to Bali that travelers can look forward to. In an update issued last week, the International Air Services Commission sided in favor of Jetstar over bookies favorites Virgin Australia in the fight for more seats in Bali.

The draft determination published by the IASC shows that it is proposing to award Jetstar with 2,320 seats per week to Bali from Australia over Virgin Australia’s proposal for 2,464 seats.

If the final permission is granted, Jetstar will be able to launch ten new flight services to Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport every week.

While things are looking up for Austrian-based Bali lovers, it is not only Aussies who have more flight options to Bali that are opening up.

Good news came last week for New Zealand based Bali lovers who will now be able to fly direct to Bali throughout the year, not only during the high season.

The new direct service that will be offered year-round will enable New Zealand tourists to avoid long and arduous layovers in Australia on their way to Bali, cutting both travel costs and time in transit.

Later this month a new flight service between the Middle East and Bali will be launched. Etihad Airways will launch the new direct service between Abu Dhabi and Denpasar on the 25th June.

Closer to home low-cost airline AirAsia has just confirmed not one but two new short-haul flight services to Bali.

The President Director of AirAsia Indonesia, Verantia Josephine Sinaga, confirmed to reporters, “These two newest routes are the only direct flights connecting the popular destinations Denpasar-Phuket, Thailand, and Denpasar-Kota Kinabalu, which are located in Sabah, Malaysia.”

These new routes will not only help Southeast Asia-based tourists visit Bali but also open up more options for global travelers who are exploring the length and breadth of the region.

Bali has no light rail and traffic jams in several popular tourist areas day and night. I'd like to know what plans the government has to alleviate this major issue. More direct flights will only make it worse.

@Michael Beer, low cost airlines are not about comfort but for spontaneous, convenience and cheap travel that attract certain passengers with a budget and suitable direct routes.
