Online Immigration Services Will Be Disrupted For Bali Tourists During Eid

The upcoming Hari Raya Idul Fitr holiday in Indonesia will see hundreds of thousands of businesses and offices close their doors for the duration of the festival.

As the celebrations get underway in the coming days, tourists are encouraged to stay up to speed with closures affecting immigration offices in the country.

Hari Raya Idul Fitri, also referred to as Eid al-Fitr or Lebaran is the biggest festival in Indonesia.

The holiday also marks the annual leave period for much of the corporate and governmental workforce, meaning closures across the country as families travel and gather to enjoy the festive season. 

Bali’s immigration offices and online visa services will also experience closures and disruptions in the coming days.

It was already announced that anyone who needed to submit a visa extension in person should have done so by midday on the 5th April, it’s also been confirmed that online visa services will be disrupted too.

In a statement published on the molina.imigrasi.go.id website the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Directorate General of Immigration says “visa processing will be temporarily closed from the 8th (Monday) to the 15th (Monday) of April 2024 due to the public holiday and collective leave of Hari Raya Idul Fitri 1445 Hijriah.”

The statement continues, “however, visa exemption and visa on arrival services are still accessible. We will resume regular operation on 16th April 2024.”

They note “Visa applications received on 6th (Saturday) and 7th (Sunday) of April 2024, will start to be processed on the 16th April 204, Tuesday).”

Visa applications for socio-cultural visas, work permits, and study visas will be affected. Tourists can still apply for the e-visa on arrival; however, travelers should be prepared for the fact that even these visa processing times may take longer than usual.

If you are landing in Bali between the 6th and 16th of April, it is advisable to apply for the visa on arrival when you touch down in Bali.

While the online services for the evisa on arrival will still be accessible, the potential for delays during this time is a risk tourists must consider making.

While at all other times of the year the evisa on arrival should be the go-to option for a tourist visa for Bali, arranging the visa on arrival at Bali Airport for the next ten days may be the best option.

Bali’s immigration offices will also be closed from April 5th until April 16th.

A statement issued by the Denpasar Immigration Office explains, “Friends, in connection with Eid ul Fitr, Denpasar Immigration Office will be closed from 8 April 2024 to 15 April 2024 and Will reopen Tuesday, April 16, 2024.”

These are the same closure dates observed by the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, too. 

Over this weekend, tourists in Bali expect to see a huge influx of vehicles on Bali’s roads. As the Hari Raya Idul Fitri holiday gets underway, tens of thousands of tourists from Java will be making the ferry to Bali.

Tens of thousands more families will be filing in to celebrate the Lebaran holiday on the Island of the Gods. 

After heavy rains and localized flooding earlier this week, tourists in Bali traveling by road over this weekend are encouraged to take things extra slow, leave plenty of time and to prepare for traffic.

There are more traffic officers, police officers and security teams out and about to ensure that everyone is able to move throughout the island and enjoy their vacations freely. 

Anyone traveling to Bali in the next two weeks who has not booked their accommodation would be advised to do so as soon as possible, especially if staying in the popular resort areas of the south of the island.
