Bali is a destination best known for its incredible beaches, stunning resorts, and unique cultural heritage.
What sets Bali apart from other leading tourist destinations is that it offers something for every kind of traveler….including shopaholics.
On Friday, 24th March, Bali celebrated the opening of the biggest mall on the island. Located on Jalan Gatot Subroto Tim, Living World Denpasar is officially the most extensive shopping experience in the province, eclipsing Galeria Mall and Discovery Mall on Kuta Beach.
Living World Denpasar was formally opened by the Deputy Governor of Bali, Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati, who is known by his nickname, Cok Ace.
He made a passionate speech at the launch event and shared his hopes that the new mall will bring big opportunities for tourists, local residents, and business owners in Bali.
Cok Ace said, “we hope that Bali’s MSMEs can upgrade, give them the opportunity to develop…My appreciation is also for space for artists to show creativity. Hopefully, this [mall] will become an asset and belong to us all for our common progress.”
He also noted that the new mall creates a space for community events, art exhibitions, and social interaction. Cok Ace said that although global trends for consumerism are shifting increasingly towards online shopping, the new Living World Mall in Denpasar provides a new take on the shopping experience.

He said, “this will be a new alternative for Balinese people to see malls with extraordinary concepts. Not just a mall, but it has a new concept. This also shows how much potential Bali is seen in developing shopping centers.”
So, why visit the Living World Mall in Denpasar? Well, there’s heaps to explore. The mall spans over 120,000 square meters and includes the mall itself, a vast amphitheater, as well as an “eat-ertainment’’ hub for all to enjoy.
Also speaking at the launch event, Agus Surya Bakti, the commissioner of the project, said, “[we] present [the mall] as the largest shopping center in Bali. Living World carries the Balinese spirit and culture in architecture, the mall concept, and its social initiatives in cooperating with MSMEs and the local arts community in Bali.”
Living World Denpasar is already proving to be incredibly popular with locals in Bali, with thousands turning up over the weekend to be the amongst the first to walk through the doors. The mall is home to international clothing brands like UNIQLO, lifestyle stores like Ataru, and world-renowned cosmetic businesses like The Body Shop.
The Living World Mall in Denpasar is a real treat for foodies. Now home to some of Indonesia’s most loved food chains, visitors can window shop while sipping on a healthy iced smoothie from Fruju or snacking on indulgent pastries from Orlenaycious.
Whether you’re looking for market bargains, big-name surf brands, or even treasures from local artisanal boutiques, Bali offers shopaholics the chance to indulge in it all.
Bali’s Kuta Market is perhaps the most famous tourist shopping destination. Market vendors sell everything from souvenirs to sarongs, from fake branded merchandise to traveler essentials like rucksacks, selfie sticks, and charging cables.
Most market stalls are happy to haggle on price unless a fixed price is printed on a sign.
Discovery Mall is perhaps the most popular shopping mall for tourists in Bali. Located right on Kuta Beach, the mall is home to all the international brands you could wish for.
Set back from Kuta Beach, all along Sunset Road sit all the discount, outlet surf shop warehouses where travelers in the know take an empty suitcase and stock up on clothing at a fraction of the cost they would pay at home.
In trendy tourist hotspots like Canggu and Uluwatu, you can find more independent boutiques showcasing everything from ceramics to silver jewelry, art prints, notebooks, and homewares.
With so much to explore in Bali when it comes to shopping, the real question is not, what will you buy? But where will you start?

An interesting dilemma. Malls can offer 1 stop shopping but at a price. Rents and services are higher leading to higher retail prices. They use far more resources like power, water, sewage disposal....than traditional street front businesses. Their success relies on having prominent lead tenants. If they aren't there or don't provide the customer draw the centre is stuffed. They can negatively reduce the business in traditional markets and owner operated warungs. It doesn't matter if it's tourists or locals retail turnover is not increased. It's just smaller slices of the cake. For me they're bloody ugly.

Another superstore for super junk to buy. I stay away from these stores like if they had the plague which they probably have. Do they even have a Mc D's or a Subway there? Somebody please check out the Food Court and let me know here what they have there. Thanks 😊

No McD or Subway from what I could see. Mostly local chains. Naga Eight are having a counter in the food court. I paid 65k for 6 small pieces of pork over some rice: child size portion.

It’s at least moot if now is real good time to open such shopping malls in times of pandemic’s and soaring internet sales. - The WHO {World’s Health Organisation} is afraid about outbreak of Marburg virus in Tanzania (Tanzanian government say that it’s under control), Marburger virus cause approximately 90% mortality rate. - New Covid mutations such XBB.1.16 are on approach after already present XBB.1. and XBB.1.5. in Europe. Scientists advise is: Not to panic.
