E-Sports athletes and gamers from around the world are preparing to travel to Bali ahead of the 2022 International Esports Federation World Championships. The biggest event in the e-sports world will kick off on the 27th of November and continue through to the 9th of December. Players can win a whopping half a million dollars, a massive leap from the $55,000 prize money awarded last year.
E-sports have been gaining in popularity and international acclaim year after year. Organizers are so sure that this year’s event will be the biggest ever of its kind that style have summoned the Guinness World Record teams to be on standby to observe the whole event. Illija Kurteski, the assistant to the executive management team, spoke to Indonesia’s national news agency earlier this week.
He said, “We have a Guinness record commission attending the world esports championship to become the first world esports championship with the most players and participants from countries in the world. They will be in Bali, and they will be monitoring us, so we have to make it the most impressive.”
A total of 106 countries will be represented at the event, and each country can send up to eleven representatives to the games. He said, “I think we will have more than 700 players and the total of everyone who will participate in this event because it exceeds 1100. So this is not a small event. This is one of the biggest world events that is happening right now, and I am really, really looking forward to this”. There will be players represented from all over Europe, Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Oceania.

There is much excitement in the lead-up to the world championships. IESF President Vlad Marinescu told the media in a statement, “We are very excited for this momentous growth of the 2022 WE Championships Finals prize pool to $500,000, which is representative of the growing popularity and credibility of our flagship event. We are on track to hold the biggest and most inclusive WE Championships yet. We look forward to further increasing access to professional Esports opportunities and providing athletes with the ultimate environment to perform at their full potential.”
Interestingly, the WE Championships is the only international event that allows athletes to compete by country. The game titles that will be played at the championships in Bali include S:GO, Dota 2, Tekken 7, and eFootball™️ series.
Making their debut appearance are PUBG Mobile and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. E-sports were given a pilot appearance at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham this year. Eight games were involved in the pilot event, with gold, silver, and bronze medals available in each.
Individual players and teams attending the games will be a mix of professional and highly skilled amateurs. Kurteski said, “I need to underline that all Asian countries are also focusing on bringing their professional players to PUBG mobile because it’s a very big thing for this region. Also, I’m not going to say much, but we have some surprises in terms of high-profile players and you will see them in the games.”
Tourism and event leaders in Bali are actively working to promote the island as a destination for large-scale and international events. They are looking to specialize in hosting more sports tournaments, conferences and high-profile music events. Building on the success of the G20 Summit, Bali has proven itself as a trustworthy and outstanding destination for event organizers.
In 2023 Bali will be hosting qualifying games for the U19s FIFA World Cup and the World Beach Games. The first headliners for the Joyland Festival Bali in March have been announced, as have the acts for the Dream Machine Festival in Nusa Dua. One of the many major international conferences on the calendar is the 15th International Medical Council Conference, where Bali officials aim to further promote the island as a medical tourism destination.

But the internet in Bali is pretty terrible... Not a good location for a digital event.

It was reported that Indonesia International Marathon 2022 in Bali failed to pay out 3 foreign winners the full prize money. A lawyer had to be involved in order to recover full price money from the Indonesian organizer. Maybe this time no issue.
