Dozens Of Bali Migrant Workers Evacuated From Danger Zone In Ukraine

Dozens of migrant workers from Bali were evacuated from the conflict zone in Ukraine on March 3.

The Head of Technical Operations for the Bali Migrant Worker Protection Agency, Wiam Satriawan, confirmed that the central government sent an airplane to Bucharest in southern Romania on March 2.

The plane rescued 80 migrant workers from the danger zone in Ukraine. 29 of them were Balinese who had been working as therapists in Ukraine.

“Our government evacuated 80 Indonesian citizens and three foreign nationals on March 3 using a chartered flight from Garuda Airlines,” Wiam said on Monday (7/3).

The airline landed in the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, and all the workers immediately underwent a mandatory quarantine for five days.

26 of the Balinese workers were transported back to Bali, while the other 3 extended their quarantine time as they hadn’t received their health clearance letters from the officials.

Once they received their permission letters, they were transported to Bali from Jakarta with AirAsia Airlines on Monday (7/3) at 4:35 pm. Officials supervised them to ensure that Covid protocols were maintained in the process.
