26 Foreign Inmates Granted Remission From Bali Prisons On Christmas

Bali authorities have granted remission to 26 foreign inmates from different prisons on Christmas 2021.

The Head of Bali Law and Human Rights Minister, Jamaruli Manihuruk, confirmed that dozens of foreign inmates in various Bali prisons received remission on Christmas day.

“A total of 26 foreign inmates were given remission. There are 14 inmates from Kerobokan prison, 5 inmates from Kerobokan Woman Prison, 1 from Singaraja prison, and 6 inmates from Bangli Narcotic Prison,” Jamaruli said on Sunday (26/12).

Jamaruli expained that this remission program was implemented in accordance with the Indonesian Constitution. There was also a decree from the Directorate General of Indonesian Prison issued on November 4^th 2021.

Apart from the foreign inmates, hundreds of local inmates have also received remission. Further, two of them were completely released from prison.

“212 Indonesian inmates also received remission, and 125 of them are from Kerobokan Prison. This program is targeted to inmates who were well-behaved and have complied with all the rules during their jailtime,” Jamaruli added.

During the detention period, all the inmates in Bali were regularly taught practical skills such as welding, handcrafting, painting, and farming to help them adjust when they get back to society.
