Over A Dozen Bali Athletes Tested Positive With Covid-19

Bali Officials have confirmed that 18 of Bali athletes who had joined a competition in Papua have tested positive with Covid-19.

The Head of the Bali Health Agency, Dr. Ketut Suarjaya confirmed that 18 of Bali’s athletes who were confirmed positive with Covid-19 are required to undergo quarantine at the government facility in Papua. “18 of our athletes who joined the National Sport Competition (PON) XX in Papua have recently contracted Covid-19, so they must be isolated before getting transported back to Bali.” Dr. Suarjaya said on Tuesday (19/10).

Previously, many of Bali athletes had joined the PON XX that began on the 2^nd to the 15th of October 2021, the event had taken place at Lukas Enembe Stadium that is located in Papua. Once the competition was over, all the participants were required to test negative from Covid-19 before finally heading back to their hometown, and apparently over a dozen Bali athletes had to postpone their return.

However, Suarjaya explained that the 18 athletes are asymptomatic Covid-19 patients who don’t require any medical treatments from the hospital. Officials confirmed that they will grant them permission to return once they’ve tested negative from Covid-19. Meanwhile, other athletes who have returned to Bali were still required to undergo 5 days of quarantine at an appointed hotel in Bali. “Other athletes who have returned must undergo a quarantine at Pop Haris Hotel in Denpasar, and will gain access to go back home after testing negative on the 5^th day of quarantine.” Dr. Suarjaya concluded.
