Thousands of birds have been found dead after a burst of pouring rain in Banjar Sema Pering Village, Blahbatuh Gianyar.
Officials from Banjar Sema, Ari Pratama confirmed that a large number of birds became unable to fly during a heavy rainfall on Thursday morning (9/9) in Banjar Sema, causing many of them to die as they were physically exhausted after many hours of struggling. “Huge amounts of little birds began to fall from the trees when the heavy rain started pouring on Thursday morning.” Pratama said.
Pratama explains that this was not the first phenomenon like this that has occurred in Banjar Sema, when the rainy season comes. Many of the birds who attempted to seek shelter by hanging under the tamarind trees were unable to keep their feathers dry, especially during the heavy rain, causing them to lose their ability to fly due to the soaking wet feathers on their wings. “The leaves on tamarind trees are relatively small, so they couldn’t cover most of their body during the heavy rain.” Pratama added.
Among all the fallen birds, some of them have managed to gain back strength and began to fly, but unfortunately a huge amount of them weren’t so lucky. “Thousands of birds had fallen, but thankfully some of them started flying when the sunshine dried their wings later that afternoon.” Pratama concluded. He also ensured that the birds died by natural causes.
