A 27-year-old man named Igor from Russia has been finally rescued after being missing for 1 day while hiking Mount Sang Hyang.

The Head of the Bali Search and Rescue Team (SAR), Gede Darmada confirmed that Igor was found by authorities at an altitude of 1,880 meters above sea level on Mount Sang Hyang that is located in Penebel, Tabanan on Sunday morning (8/8). “After receiving a report regarding the incident from Igor’s friends on Sunday evening, we finally managed to find him on Monday evening (9/8) around 6:15pm after 15 hours of searching. ” Darmada said on Monday (9/8).

Prior to the incident, Igor and his two friends began their hike on Mount Sang Hyang on Sunday morning. After a few hours of hiking, two of his friends decided to stop and go back to their villa in Gianyar as they realized that they were physically incapable of continuing their hike. “Two of Igor’s friends decided to return back to their villa around 2:00pm, but Igor kept on hiking by himself.” Darmada added. Once he managed to reach the top of Mount Sang Hyang in the afternoon, he was confused and was unable to recognize the way back to his starting point.

Igor attempted to send a message to his friend with his cellphone, informing them that he was lost around 5:00pm. One of his friends immediately reported the incident to the SAR team and asked for their assistance to find Igor. “After receiving this report, we began our search early in the morning around 3:15am, by deploying 13 rescuers to begin the operation.” Darmada concluded. Once Igor was found, the team transported him to Penebel Police Department before taking him back to his villa. Darmada reminds everyone to avoid hiking without any assistance from professionals such as local guides to prevent these types of incidents.
