A Teenager Is Missing After Falling Off A Ferry On The Bali Strait

A 17-year-old from Tasikmalaya, West Java has gone missing after falling from a Ferry on the Bali strait.

The Head of Bali Search and Rescue Team (SAR), Gede Darmada confirmed that the incident occurred when the victim took a ferry trip that departed from Ketapang, Banyuwangi to Gilimanuk, Bali on Thursday evening (29/7). “We received a report regarding this incident from a witness on Thursday evening around 7:45pm.” Darmada said on Friday morning (30/7).

Prior to the incident, officials from the Darma Ferry I that was scheduled to arrive at Gilimanuk Port on Thursday afternoon received a report regarding one of their passengers who had fallen from the ferry into the sea during their trip. The Darma Ferry I immediately reported the incident to the authorities of Gilimanuk Port to begin their search around 6:00pm, but unfortunately authorities were unable to continue their search due to a strong current.

Officials predicted that the victim was potentially dragged by the current to the southern part of the Bali strait. “We have been searching for the victim using a Rigid Inflatable Boat, but we haven’t managed to find him yet.” Darmada added. Apart from the authority from the SAR team, several other institutions such as the Coastal Guard and Military Officers from Bali and Banyuwangi, East Java have been involved in the operation to search for the victim around the area.
