Officials from the Bali Ngurah Rai Airport confirmed that the airport has seen more passengers since the travel ban policy ended on Monday (17/5).
The Stakeholder Relation Manager of Angkasa Pura Ltd for the Ngurah Rai Bali Airport, Taufan Yudhistira confirmed that the airport has had a significant increase of travellers since Tuesday (18/5). “As the travel ban policy ended, today we have already recorded 7,857 domestic passengers arriving and 6,755 departing.” Yudhistira said on Tuesday (18/5). The airport was also expected to manage around 120 flights in one day.
“We expected to see around 120 flights arriving and departing in one day alone, as a result we would have a 140% increase in comparison with the situation during the travel ban policy.” Yudhistira added. He also explained that during the 12 days of the travel ban which was from the 6th to the 17th of May 2021, Bali Ngurah Rai airport only recorded 12,896 passengers between 204 flight services. Meanwhile the General Manager of Angkasa Pura Ltd for Bali Airport, Herry AY Sikado assured that the airport was operating under strict procedures that were instructed by the central government during the travel ban policy.
“Despite our operations during the travel ban policy, we kept ensuring all passengers were complying with all prevention protocols through our Aviation Security at the airport.” Sikado concluded. However, with a 600% increase in departures and a 415% increase in arrivals Sikado admitted that the number of passengers was higher than during the 2020 Eid Al-Fitr celebration travel ban.

the number of new positives in Bali over the next 2-4 weeks in Bali may start to climb again now. While the travel ban was in place the number of new cases in Bali was dropping significantly. The number of new cases in Bali from domestic tourists was almost at 20% of the total number of new daily cases

So the point of trying to achieve herd immunity in Bali is ? Surely so many domestic tourist arrivals eradicates any chance of a Covid free island in readiness for vaccinated tourists
