A video of 29-year-old Mirah Sugandhi who was evicted from a beach that was claimed as private property by one of the hotels in Sanur has gone viral on social media.
The incident occured when Mirah came to the beach with her kid on Tuesday afternoon (23/3), suddenly one of the security guards from Puri Santrian Hotel Sanur approached her and asked her if she was a guest of the hotel or not. “He came to me and disrespectfully asked if I was a guest of the hotel or not. After I said that I wasn’t their guest, he told me to go to the other side of the beach” Mirah said on Wednesday (24/3).
After receiving backlash, the security guard who asked Mirah to leave uploaded a video on his instagram as an apology for what he has done. “I personally apologize to Mirah as I’m not able to meet her in person because I have to go back to my hometown to take care of a sick parent. And I also apologize that I asked her to leave the beach as I was just doing my job and following orders from management” Alit said.
The management of Puri Santrian has also apologized for the miscommunication, they clarified that the beach is not a private property so it’s open for everyone to visit. “There are no private beaches in Bali including Sanur, so everyone has access to this public space to swim, fish and do religious ceremonies” said the owner of Puri Santrian Hotel, IB Gede Sidharta Putra on Wednesday (23/3) in a video that was posted as his apology to Mirah. Sidharta also mentioned that this was the first case of it’s kind while operating this hotel for over 50 years, and he hopes that it will never happen again.
Meanwhile the Mayor of Denpasar, IGN Jaya Negara admitted that he has reminded the management of Puri Santrian hotel to give proper training to all their staff to avoid this kind of miscommunication in the future. Conclusively, according to the President’s Regulation Number 51 Year 2016 about the beach boundaries, all the coastlines in Indonesia belong to the government and are unable to be privatized.

If the person wasn't wearing a mask in a public area, there is every reason to remind people by the authorities. In this case let's assume that she and her kids wore masks and were minding their own business on a beach in front of a hotel.
What if she wasn't a local would the security guard intervened that person for trespassing which in fact nobody has broken any law for being on a public beach front???
