The drive-thru vaccination program officially opened in BDCC Nusa Dua on Sunday (28/2). The provincial government of Bali is currently prioritizing tourism workers for vaccinations, in efforts to accelerate the reopening of international travel.
Bali Governor, I Wayan Koster along with the Indonesian Health Minister, Budi Gunadi Sadikin inspected the process Sunday morning before inaugurating the drive-thru vaccination program to accelerate the distribution before the border reopens.
As the Bali Sun previously reported, the provincial government is preparing to reopen international tourism in Bali, specifically in the green zone areas with minimal risk of COVID-19 transmission.
Meanwhile the Health Minister, Budi Sadikin explained that Bali is the top priority of the vaccination program due to the dependency of its people on the tourism sector.
He noted that this first round of vaccination will be applied to 5,000 tourism workers, and elderly citizens.
“This drive-thru vaccination program is a cooperation between the Health Agency, Bali Tourism Agency, Grab Indonesia, and Good Doctor under the supervision of Indonesian Health Ministry,” Budi Gunadi said.
Additionally, Budi said that from the four different COVID-19 vaccines attained by Indonesia, being Sinovac, Pfizer, Astra Zeneca, Biontex & Novavax, Bali will administer Sinovac for the drive-thru vaccination program.
“We have to support this program, not for the sake of business but for creating herd immunity among the people,” Budi Sadikin added.
Tourism Minister Sandiaga Uno, who attended the meeting virtually, also appreciated the innovation that was supported by Grab Indonesia and Good Doctor to create the event.
“Let’s support this vaccination program and turn Bali into a green zone as soon as possible” Sandiaga said.
