Tourists in Bali this weekend are invited to attend the Jatiluwih Festival 2024. The cultural celebration will be hosted at the world-famous Jatiluwih Rice Terraces in Tabanan Regency on the 6th and 7th of July.

Festival reacted activities will span across the rice terraces and tourism centre from 9 am until 10.30pm on Saturday and Sunday. Events will take place at the main stage area, the UNSECO Monument, the WWF Building and in the paddy fields too.

Festival organizers have confirmed that there will be art performances, agricultural attractions, and competitions for all to enjoy. The Jatiluwih Rice Terraces will remain open for day visitors, and those who visit for the day will also catch a glimpse of festival activities.

Since entry to the festival is free, everyone is welcome to enjoy the event. Tourists will only have to pay the normal entry fees for the UNESCO Jatiluwih Rice Terraces World Heritage Site, which is IDR 50,000 for international adult tourists and IDR 40,000 for children. Domestic tourists are charged IDR 15,000, and children IDR 5,000.

Jatiluwih Rice Terraces is one of the most famous landscapes in all of Bali. Located in Tabanan Regency, the landscape only receives a small fraction of the number of tourists seen by the ever popular Tegallalang Rice Terraces that are located just outside of Ubud.

Tourists can look forward to a gamelan and rindik performance, a fashion show, plenty of live music, and a community meditation and prayer session.

Speaking to the media, Jatiluwih Tourism Manager I Ketut Purna said that all plans for the festival are going smoothly. The festival will involve farmers, villagers, and students from the surrounding communities.  “We will it [the event] for two days. It was shorter [this year] because previously we were busy with preparations for the World Water Forum.”

He hopes to see a large turnout of visitors from across tourism demographics. Purna said, “As we know, domestic tourist visits, especially to Jatiluwih, are lower than foreign tourists. Hopefully, this festival, which we hold annually, can become a tourist attraction.

What sets the Jatiluwih Festival apart from other cultural events is that this large-scale festival does not provide a platform for Balinese and national-level bands.

Artists, creators, and performers at the event are all members of the Jatiluwih Village community so that the spotlight on local talent can be maximized.

Starting from kindergarten, elementary, and middle school student, and youth groups, including Jatiluwih farmers, everyone on stage calls Jatiluwih home.

Purna confirmed that tourist visits to Jatiluwih have increased by 70% in the last few months.

In 2023, the average number of visits will reach 800 people every day, now it reaches 1,200 to 1,500 every day, predominantly foreign tourists.

He added, “Actually, there are over 70% of tourist visits, which is good at the moment. But from this festival, we want to attract domestic tourists.”

Purna and his teams are working hard to ensure that the world-famous rice terraces are as accessible and engaging a tourism attraction as possible.

In June, Purna and the Jatiluwih Tourism Team introduced new electric shuttle buses at the tourism attraction to help make it even easier for tourists to have an enjoyable visit.

While the electric shuttle buses are currently being used as part of a trial, there is hope that if everything goes well, the buses will be a permanent feature at the attraction.

The shuttle buses can carry up to 14 people at a time and are available for anyone to use, irrespective of mobility needs.

Leaders at Jatiluwih Rice Terraces are working with the provincial government and UNESCO to protect the rice terraces and the subak system in Bali better.

As more and more agricultural land gets turned over for tourism and infrastructural developments across the island, there are concerns that critics landscapes like Jatiluwih and other rice paddy terraces need more protection than ever.

How ironic are ....."As more and more agricultural land is diverted for tourism and infrastructure development across the island, there are concerns that landscapes such as Jatiluwih and other rice fields need more protection than ever" I would offer a solution towards modernizing existing agricultural systems so that agricultural produce be better and of better quality Why does the government continue to issue permits for the use of productive agricultural land for tourism rather than providing permits for what best development for the province e. g.: development of the modern "greenhouse&livestock farming" on unproductive land by integrating IoT/AI technology application to enhance the present and the future of farming system.LINK. .And thoroughly control, reinforce and take firm action to policies of illegal Villas & Hotel and be more selective in providing nessesity development to tourism industry So that will eventually make Bali as stand alone province in the food sector LINK
