The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2024 list has been revealed, and once again, Bali features in a prominent position.

As home to some of Indonesia’s most luxurious resorts, hotels, and villas, it’s only natural that Bali’s pioneering hotels would feature on such a prestigious list.

The World’s 50 Best Hotels has listed Desa Potato Head in Seminyak in 21st place on the list of the most iconic, luxurious, and well-managed hotels in the World.

Desa Potato Head, which is also home to Potato Head Beach Club, is an icon of sustainable tourism worldwide and has consistently gone above and beyond to ensure that guests have an exceptional experience and that the local community benefits from the resort itself.

Desa Potato Head has been a regular feature on the World’s 50 Best Hotels list for many years.

In 2023, the esteemed resort was listed at number 40, jumping to 21 in 2024. The team has demonstrated how the hotel is committed to improving the experience.

World’s 50 Best Hotels say of Desa Potato Head that the hotel “offers a different perspective to the plethora of luxury stays in Bali.”

“Its beachside location has all the expected natural beauty and beach access of its counterparts, but the art installations, sweeping structures, and a zero-waste philosophy elevate its offering to make it a leader in the new frontier of luxury travel.”

Desa Potato Head has also been named by the World’s 50 Best as one of the top eco-conscious hotels in the World.

Joining the ranks with exceptional safari lodges like Singita in South Africa’s Kruger National Park and Hotel Esencia in Mexico’s Quintana Roo, Potato Head is an absolute bucket list must for travelers interested in sustainability, regenerative farming, community impact, and faultless hospitality.

The awards share “A unique name for a unique hotel. Desa Potato Head, located in Bali, the Indonesian tourism hotspot with a reputation for heavy partying, is antithetical to the region’s vaunted nightlife scene. It envelops its guests in a sanctuary where sustainability, wellness, and cultural immersion take center stage. Designed with sustainability in mind, it was a regional pioneer in carbon neutrality, which it achieved in 2017.”

“In the same year, the hotel also committed to sorting out its own rubbish on-site, which reduced the amount of waste material sent to landfills from over 50 percent to three percent in the space of a few months. The hotel hopes to declare itself a zero-waste establishment in the very near future.”

In a celebratory social media post, Potato Head Bali shared, “This award is for our guests, friends, and family who have helped shape the experience. Our village was built on good times, and we thank you very much for all the love and support and for making this happen. Bali, this one’s for you!”

Bali tourists don’t need to book a stay at Desa Potato Head in order to feel the magic of this incredible resort, beach club, and creative village.

Tourists can visit the Dome Restaurant, where top-notch chefs serve modern European food with local ingredients and natural wines.

At Tanaman Restaurant, the team pushes the boundaries of culinary possibility, honoring the whole plant as an ingredient from root to fruit.

Ijen Restaurant showcases Indonesia’s finest seafood and epicurean innovation, and Kaum Restaurant profiles the secret depths of Indonesia’s most authentic cuisines.

In 2024, Desa Potato Head will be the only Bali-based hotel to feature on the list and one of only two Indonesian hotels to be awarded.

Avid hotel fans will already be able to hazard a guess at which other hotel featured on the list…of course, it’s the indomitable Nihi in Sumba.

Jumping from 18th place in 2023 to 10th place in 2024, the hotel continues to dazzle international guests with its surf, remote location, and incomparable hospitality.

World’s 50 Best Hotels share that “Nihi Sumba began its life as a surf shack in 567 acres of largely untouched jungle on the remote Sumba Island in eastern Indonesia. It has since evolved into a 27-villa tropical paradise that makes the most of its serene surroundings.”

“Outdoor showers, horse-riding on the beach, and a clifftop open-air spa – everything at Nihi Sumba is designed to help guests reconnect with nature in total comfort.”
