Tourists Must Park Rental Scooters Responsibly In Famous Bali Hotspot

Tourists visiting Bali’s Ubud are reminded to park responsibility. The warnings come as the Bali Transportation Agency continues an operation to crack down on illegal parking that seriously impacts the flow of traffic in the congested arts and cultural capital of the island.

Ubud is one of the most popular tourist towns in Bali. Home to incredible temples, cafes, art markets, and yoga studios, Ubud attracts a wide range of travel demographics.

Ubud also serves as a launchpad for tourists wishing to explore more of the central regions of Bali, including Kintamani and Bedugul.

Ubud has long struggled with traffic congestion; the narrow streets were never historically designed to support such a heavy flow of traffic.

Over the years, a series of traffic management systems have been put into place, including traffic lights at the top of Jalan Raya Ubud, one-way traffic flows, and increased traffic officers stationed around the main tourist hubs.

Periodically, the Bali Transportation Agency will conduct surveillance operations in the Ubud area to crack down on illegal parking along the town’s narrow streets. Illegal parking in central Ubud causes huge problems. What might initially look like a few poorly parked motorcycles can cause havoc on the roads at peak traffic times as the illegally parked motorcycles block traffic from flowing freely, making parts of the two-way roads into one lane.

In the last week, the Bali Transportation Agency for Gianyar Regency, known locally as Dishub Gianyar, conducted a series of patrols around central Ubud and had warnings for both locals and tourists. Dishub Gianyar installed a series of no-parking signs and bollards to prevent illegal parking direct traffic around drain water flooding.

In the cases of illegally parked motorcycles in central Ubud, Dishub Gianayr let the air out of the tires of a series of illegally parked motorcycles found on Ubud’s sidewalks and seized an undisclosed number of motorcycles, too.

Tourists who are planning on driving motorcycles in Ubud are advised to park at the public car park at the Sacred Monkey Forest, at the Lapangan Parking or Pura Dalem Puri Central Parking, or Ubud Central Parking on Jalan Suweta and then walk around Ubud.

It is sometimes unclear where there is and isn’t a legal parking space in central Ubud due to the volume of illegally parked vehicles. Tourists are advised to park in designated parking lots rather than risk parking along the street there is no signage.

Traffic officers across Bali are increasingly committed to cracking down on driving offenses from both locals and foreigners on the island.

As Bali’s roads are noted to be amongst the most dangerous in all of Indonesia, traffic officers are clear that violations of traffic laws risk serious harm to drivers, passengers, and fellow road users.

In Badung Regency last week, the Head of Badung Police, AKP Wayan Sugianta, and his unit conducted a series of spot checks on motorcycle drivers in the Canggu area.

AKP Sugianta and his teams found the most frequent violations by tourists were driving without a license, driving without a helmet, and driving motorcycles with more than one passenger.

He told the media, “In order to create security, safety, order, and smooth traffic in the jurisdiction of the Badung Police, we from the Traffic Unit take action against visible violations that can cause [disturbances]. For example, foreigners do not wear helmets, Indonesians who use brong exhausts, and foreigners who have two or three passengers.”

AKP Sugianta also called on motorcycle taxi drivers to obey the law when driving tourists from destination to destination.

He conducted AKP Wayan Sugianta concluded, “We also appeal to the pool to keep obeying the traffic rules. Advise the passengers to wear a helmet. If a violation is found, we will deal with it.”

What about the local's parking on the foot path and riding along foot path's local authorities should police that before worrying about tourists parking

@Neil kays, Haha. Locals do not care about any rules and secondly most do not have money to pay the steep "fines".

The leaders/police only boss around tourists coming from rule based societies -- who will actually obey when corrected and pay whatever "fine" handed out.

Laws for tourists again, but not for Indonesians. That country will never become civilized.
