As the new Indonesian government was sworn in this weekend, Sandiaga Uno, the current Minister of Tourism and Creative Economies, was in Bali giving his final speeches and departing sentiments as he began to move on from his role.

Speaking at the Sanur Village Festival, he delivered his hopes for the future of tourism in Bali.

In his farewell speech, Minister Uno shared his appreciation for tourism stakeholders in Bali, the Balinese communities, and all those who work to uphold the province’s cultural values and natural beauty.

He shared his hope that the Bali tourism industry will continue to be innovative and adaptive in the face of global change.

With the global tourism industry changing at an unprecedented pace, Minister Uno called for Bali’s tourism sector to focus on strengthening sustainable tourism that is responsive to tourists’ dynamic needs.

Minister Uno said, “Sanfest is a series of my closing activities in the province that I love so much, Bali Province. From the beginning of my duties as minister unit, I stopped serving; this is a family that is always close to my heart.”

He shared that he does not want to see established destinations like Sanur overlooked as the focus begins to grow in destinations in North Bali and West Bali.

He explained, “Now, our focus is to develop North Bali with several innovations, but we must ensure that Sanur and South Bali become quality tourism destinations committed to sustainability; I will entrust it to the tourism and creative economy people in Bali.”

Minister Uno shared his support for President Prabowo Subianto and the incoming Minister of Tourism and Minister of Creative Economies.

One of Sanidaga Uno’s lasting legacies will be establishing Kemenparekraf into two institutions, and as such, moving forward, his role will be filled by two ministers, each with a more specific area of focus.

Minister Uno said, “Whoever is appointed, especially in tourism, will love Bali because Bali cannot be separated as part of Indonesian tourism, which is increasingly showing its sustainability and quality.’

It is now confirmed that Widiyanti Putri will serve as Indonesia’s new Minister for Tourism and Teuku Riefky as the Minister of Creative Economies.

On Monday afternoon, Sandiaga Uno officially handed over duties to Putri and Reifky and shared his good wishes for their work through to 2029.

In an Instagram post, Uno wrote, “Congratulations on serving Mrs. Widiyanti Putri as Minister of Tourism and Mr. Teuku Riefky as Minister of Creative Economy. I am optimistic that under the leadership of these two figures, Indonesia’s tourism and creative economy sector is getting advanced and competitive in the world.

“Thank you to all the teams at @kemenparekraf.ri and all stakeholders who have so far worked together to advance tourism and the creative economy.”
