Bali is one of the most culturally generous islands on earth. From allowing tourists to visit temples, witness incredible dances, and even take part in rituals and ceremonies, experiencing Bali’s cultural heritage is a privilege that all tourists to the island can embrace.
One very special temple is promoting an incredible interactive activity for tourists that brings tourists even closer to Balinese culture.

Ulun Danu Beratan Temple in the heart of Bali is one of the most famous temples on the island.
Located on the banks of the cool and tranquil Lake Beratan, the temple is known to almost all tourists before they’ve even touched down in the province.
Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is a picture postcard image of Bali, and now tourists who visit the sacred site can immerse themselves in Balinese culture even more.
Tourists interested in Balinese culture are invited to rent traditional Balinese attire during their visit to Ulun Danu Beratan Temple. It is the case at Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, as with every Balinese temple, that tourists must wear a sarong and sash while exploring the temple grounds, but for those who want to take the experience one step further, it is possible to hire ceremonial clothing and enjoy a photoshoot too. The experience was first introduced two years ago, but as Bali enters the peak season tourism managers at Ulun Danu Beratan Temple are promoting the activity to a fresh set of visitors.
The PR Manager for Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, Made Sukarata, told reporters “We provide that service to add impressions or vacation experiences for visitors.”
The activity is popular with both domestic and international tourists, and there are clothes available to rent for adults and for children.
Renting traditional clothing is priced at an additional fee to the normal entry price to Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, and ranges from IDR 90,000 to IDR 250,000 for full ceremonial attire.
Sukarata shared with reporters that tourists are encouraged to arrange the full clothing rental and photo session through the temple’s tourism counter.
He explained, “Usually amateur photographers only sell the files, not a package with a rental of traditional clothes.”

Tourists can rent traditional sarongs, as well as dainty kebaya which are the traditional blouses worn by Balinese women attending worship, ceremonies, and rituals, for men udeng is also available to rent which is a traditional head cloth.
The sarong in Bali is also referred to as a kamen. Women wear one sarong, wrapped with a selendang or sash, whereas traditionally men wear two layers of cloth as well as a selendang. For men, the double sarong is known as the kamen and saput.

Tourists who want to experience what it is to wear full ceremonial attire during a visit to Ulun Danu Beratan Temple can rent a Payas Agung and will be assisted by temple staff to get dressed perfectly.
The Payas Agung for both men and women is worn during the most important ceremonies, rituals, and occasions, this can include weddings and metatah, which is the Balinese tooth filing ceremony for those coming of age.
The full Payas Agung attire also includes incredibly ornate jewelry and headwear, as well as a Keris or traditional Balinese dagger for men.

Travelers planning day trips to Ulun Danu Beratan Temple in July and August must time their visits to be able to watch the incredible Gebogan Parade that will be held every day throughout the high season.
On weekdays the Gebogan Parade will be held at Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, and on weekends the performance will be hosted at The Blooms Garden, which sits next to the temple grounds.
A double-entry ticket can be purchased at either of the attraction’s ticket counters helping save tourists money and maximize their time in the Bedugul Highlands.
