It turns out that young travelers don’t only want to eat, sleep, rave, and repeat while in Bali. Latest travel data shows that Gen Z tourists are inspired by wellness travel trends, especially those that they see on social media.
Sanur is a destination that has long been synonymous with older tourists and families on vacation, but as young tourists seek the opportunity to connect with culture, while prioritising health and wellness, Sanur is looking increasingly appealing.
Sanur is perhaps one of the best developed tourism resort areas in Bali, too, alongside Nusa Dua.
Increasingly walkable, super safe, and with a quiet nighttime atmosphere free from loud flashing beach bars and nightclubs, Sanur ticks all the right boxes for younger tourists looking for a low-key coastal resort vacation with access to Bali’s leading cultural attractions and world-class wellness experiences.
For the more seasoned Bali lovers, Sanur had long been the butt of the joke. Jokingly referred to as a ’S’nore’ rather than Sanur, as a nod to its sleepy atmosphere and low-key nightlife, this new era of Sanur is proving that, as ever, the resort offers something for everyone.
With wellness as the biggest travel trend of 2026, Sanur’s investment in becoming a medical and wellness destination is paying off. For returning visitors, the upgrades to infrastructure and accessibility are also greatly welcomed.
Earlier this week, the team behind the upcoming BaliSpirit Festival, which will be held in Ubud from 15th-19th April, spoke to reporters about how Gen Z and young travellers are driving demand for wellness travel in Bali.
Co-Founder of the Bali Spirit Festival and The Yoga Barn, Made Gunarta, told reporters, “Life’s paradigm is different now. While people used to be less concerned about health, now young people are starting to seek out wellness.”
Adding “Generation Z has incredible social media power. They often seek out photogenic spots, seek new experiences, and now their lifestyle often combines business, lifestyle, and health.“
This is something that both Ubud and Sanur offer in droves. With the national tourism board, Wonderful Indonesia, focusing on promoting gastronomy, maritime, and wellness tourism as key pillars of travel in 2026 and beyond, Sanur covers all bases for all demographics of travelers.
Many of Sanur’s leading hotels and resorts are welcoming more younger tourists and specifically targeting promotions towards those holidaymakers and travelers actively seeking wellness experiences. Sudamala Resorts, for example, offers guests a 6-hour long holistic journey through Bali’s healing and wellness traditions.
The 5-star resort explain that guests “Choose yoga or meditation, followed by soul purification or melukat. Enjoy lunch, a workshop on Balinese boreh and Jamu crafting, and conclude with a 120-minute traditional Balinese Spa session, including a foot bath, Balinese massage, boreh body wrap, and a lime & sea salt bath.”
The hotel also offers integrated medical tourism packages in partnership with the Bali Royal Woman and Children Centre (BROS INA) as part of its Royal Medical Wellness Service.
The Sanur is the first international health and wellness destination in Indonesia designed to serve guests of all ages.
Guests have the option of staying at The Meru Sanur or the iconic Bali Beach Hotel, with access to both the new Bali International Hospital and its partner clinics. The holistic wellness experiences at Taru Pramana Spa have been designed to ‘rejuvenate and transform’.
