Bali’s Desa Potato Head has received a B-Corp certification, which positions the beach club and hotel amongst some of the world’s most environmentally and socially conscious businesses.
The B-Corp movement is seeking to change the way businesses operate to create a better world.
Desa Potato Head is proudly one of the world’s most highly regarded eco-tourism enterprises. Earlier this year, Potato Head was named amongst the World’s Best Hotels in 2023.
With a staunch commitment to going zero-waste, producing incredible food sources from local producers, and going above and beyond to care for their staff and guests all the while minimizing environmental footprints, Desa Potato Head is a real trailblazer.
In the last seven years alone, Desa Potato Head has reduced the waste it sends to landfill by over 90%. They are on a mission to become a complete zero-waste operation without impacting the incredibly high standard of hospitality afforded to guests.
Through the Sweet Potato Project, which was born during the pandemic, the beach club, restaurant, and hotel supported the set up of two syntropic farms in the west of Bali.
These farms provide high-nutrient foods for local communities and provide jobs for rural people who wouldn’t typically benefit from tourism on the island.
In the first year alone, these farms produced 1,800 kg of food and helped create 12,500 meals that were shared with neighbors.
Desa Potato Head is not only a sustainable tourism and hospitality business, but a regenerative one.
By their definition, “Regenerative hospitality is fueling the next generation of travel. It’s a new kind of tourism, a way of being in and experiencing a destination that deeply enriches both it and the visitor.”
Far from a fad, they see regenerative tourism as a commitment to inspire and embody the changes the hospitality sector needs to achieve, both for the sake of guests and tourists but the wider community and the natural world.

Manish Puri told reporters, “The recognition of our B Corporation certification is a testament to Potato Head Bali’s ongoing efforts to create Good Times while Doing Good.”
Puri added,” We understand the responsibility that comes with this achievement, and we are committed to continually raising the bar for sustainable and socially responsible practices in the hospitality industry.”
Desa Potato Head is now only the second B-Corp-certified accommodation provider in Bali. The first was Mana Earthly Paradise in Ubud.
The eco-hotel is a cozy, rustic boutique hotel set amongst the rice paddies that surround Penestanan and Sayan.
Mana Earthly Paradise restaurant serves a generous and nutritious menu featuring predominantly organic produce and hearty portion sizes inspired by Indonesian and Japanese flavors.
