Northwest Bali Set To Become Dream Vacation Destination For Tourists

Share The Article

With the south of Bali widely acknowledged to be teetering on the brink of overtourism, Indonesian leaders want to see more investment in sustainable development in the west and north of the province.

This is great news for Bali lovers who now have a whole new reign of the island to explore in a whole new way.

Buleleng Regency spans much of the north and west of Bali. The region is home to emerging bucket list destinations like Munduk and old faithfuls like Lovina Beach.

Yet, for the average holidaymaker to Bali, Buleleng Regency remains a destination that feels a little too far off the beaten path.

Just last week, the Indonesian Tourism Minister, Sandiaga Uno, stated that he feels most tourists refer to a homogenized ‘Bali’ rather than being able to identify different areas of the island province.

He wants to see Bali’s regencies and regions promote more accessibility to tourists so they may have more fluency with the different areas of the island and their cultural and natural wonders.

With resorts in the south of Bali like Uluwatu, Kuta, Legian, Nusa Dua, Seminyak, and Canggu all experiencing rapid growth and ever-growing crowds, tourists are actively seeking destinations that are quite less developed and have a plethora of cultural wonders to explore.

Buleleng Regency offers all this and more.

On behalf of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economies, Gede Suyasa visited the Regent of Buleleng to discuss what tourists can look forward to as the region begins its journey into a modern, sustainable, and inviting tourist destination.

Suyasa started with the practical elements that make a tourist visit easy and seamless.

He told reporters, “The regional government continues to encourage infrastructure improvements as an effort to equalize tourism in South Bali and North Bali. Improvements in transportation accessibility will increase tourist visits to Buleleng Regency.”

He’s right; at present, there are no reliable public transport links between the very north of Bali and the south, meaning tourists have to hire a private driver in order to explore the region or self-drive.

While this is certainly worth it, tourists generally consider transport links when booking a vacation.

@fionadhm SAVE this video as ur reminder if u visit Bali. spare ur time to go to Munduk at least for 3 days, 2 nights.. Suyasa confirmed what many have been thinking: if tourists are to truly make the most of a vacation in Buleleng Regency, they must plan to stay for more than three nights.

Not only the Buleleng Regency’s most famous destination, Lovina Beach, a 3-4 hour drive from Bali Airport, but with so much to discover, tourists simply need more time to really immerse themselves in all that this area has to offer

In fact, there are regions of Buleleng Regency that are just waiting to be discovered.

Suyasa confirmed, “For example, there are twenty-eight waterfalls that don’t even have names. Some of them this is because they’ve never been visited.”

As Bali’s most popular waterfalls become busier, Tegnunguan Waterfall, Sekumpul Waterfall, and Kanto Lampo Waterfall, to name but a few, tourists are searching further afield to find those untouched jungle cascades, with many making the journey to Buleleng’s Munduk.

But as even Munduk starts to appear on the bucket list of more travelers, those travelers always seeking the next hidden gem will be wise to start exploring the secret water flows of West Buleleng.

One thing is for sure: there is plenty of space for everyone in North West Bali.

With plenty of locally run guesthouses to choose from, tourists seeking a sense of luxury and resort-style accommodation won’t be disappointed either.

Buleleng Regency’s most famous resort, Sumberkima Hill Retreat, offers guests an idyllic stay with jungle views, close access to the coast, and secret waterfalls.

The Sun Suko Boutique Retreat is Pemuteran’s 4-star gem. With more coral reef restoration happening in Pemuteran, the underwater world is about to be even more beautiful than the land!

Naya Gawana Resort and Spa offers the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate at the gate to the West Bali National Park, which is perhaps the most untouched natural landscape in all of Bali and is all the more reason to book your next stay in this magical pocket of the world.

It might be smarter to subsidise a bus and try to get existing infrastructure up to scratch. Lots of empty and abandoned hotels up there. Empty restaurants. The waterfalls and beaches and lookouts are full of garbage and broken concrete. No point building a resort if only rich people go, they'll stay in the resort. Will do nothing for locals.

Lovina 3-4 hours from the airport? Maybe at midnight or if you have the siren blaring, lights flashing escort.

@Steve b, Hehehe, good try to keep everyone out! You forgot to tell everyone about the huge snakes and vicious monkey's, tigers & leopards. Nevermind the huge poisonous spiders and dengue carrying mosquitoes. By all means tourists, come on up and explore our wonders, hehehe!
