New Year’s Eve Road Closures Mean Bali Tourists Must Plan Party Transport

Share The Article

With the countdown upon us, there are just a few hours to go until we say goodbye to 2024 and welcome 2025. For those of us heading out to party on New Year’s Eve, the biggest thing we all want to avoid is getting stuck in traffic.

Some will say that it is unavoidable, and looking at the situation in Canggu this week, it’s hard to disagree, but there are ways to be super savvy with traffic this New Year’s Eve, so we spend more time on the dance floor and less time in traffic.

There are several traffic management systems in place for the duration of the public holidays at the police and transportation, which hope will keep vehicles moving safely and efficiently.

In Kuta, the Denpasar Police Head of Public Relations, AKP Ketut Sukadi, has confirmed that several roads will be closed, and parking zones will be prepared to help ease congestion.

He is calling for residents, drivers, and tourists to all comply with the temporary rules to help keep the public holiday a success.

In terms of traffic management in Kuta, the Kuta-Setia Budi Highway Intersection, also known as the Kuta Traffic Lights, towards the Kuta Highway, is closed and is diverted to Setia Budi Highway; at the Bemo Corner Intersection, the route to the beach is closed and diverted via the Kuta Highway.

Those heading to Kuta Beach are advised to park in Central Parking or dedicated parking bays nearby and walk to the beachfront for the fireworks display.

At the Pasar Seni Intersection in Kuta, the lane for traffic from Jalan Kartika Plaza towards the beach will be closed and diverted along Jalan Tegal Wangi. At Patih Jelantik and Jalan Dewi Sri Intersection in Legian, the eastbound lane towards Jalan Raya Kuta will also be closed.

At the Singosari-Jalan Raya Kuta intersection, westbound traffic will be closed off and diverted to the north, towards Simpany Puseh Temacun.

AKP Sukadi concluded, “For the safety and smoothness of the New Year celebration, we appeal to the public or visitors to Kuta Beach to obey the rules. Let us together maintain security and order.”

Many of Bali’s biggest beach clubs and entertainment venues have secured official partnerships with taxi companies to ensure that tourists can travel to and from the island’s hottest parties safely and easily.

Atlas Beach Club, which will be celebrating the new year with none other than music legend AKON, has teamed up with BlueBird Taxis and Grab to make party transport a breeze.

Similarly, FINNS Beach Club will also be working with Grab to create dedicated pickup and drop-off spots.

The traffic flow system and Grab Points will be in effect from 8 am on 31st December until 5 am on 1st January.

There will be no vehicle access via Jalan Pantai Berawa, and a one-way system will be implemented on Jalan Segara Pencak and Jalan Pemelisan Agung.

Dedicated Grab Pick-Up points will be in the Atlas Beach Fest Parking Area and the Atlas Super Club Area. For FINNS, the Grab Pick-Up will be in the Dewata Bali Parking area.

Tourists would be wise to use the advance booking feature on Grab for the closing time of their chosen New Year’s Eve Party.

Bali will be extremely busy, and Grab, GoJek, and Bluebird taxis will be snapped up in an instant. If you don’t want to be waiting for a ride, booking a pick-up in advance can help minimise time hanging around before heading home.

Throughout New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, tourists will see dozens more traffic officers and local pecalang security out on Bali’s roads.

Some road closures or new traffic management systems may be brought into effect at a moment’s notice to help keep congestion reduced to a minimum.

Tourists who are heading to Bali Airport at any time during the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd of January are strongly advised to leave above and beyond the normal time needed to travel to the airport due to huge volumes of vehicles anticipated to be on Bali’s road network.
