New Flights Mark A New Era Of Bali Travel For Tourists In 2026

Bali Airport is seriously levelling up right now. It feels like a new flight is being added to the schedule every week.

Here at The Bali Sun, we monitor all the comings and goings at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport to keep tourists and travellers up to speed.

Officials at Bali Airport have confirmed that a new flight route has been added to the schedule. As has long been the case, Bali’s most frequent international arrivals hail from Australia, followed by tourists from China and then India. With demand for travel from India to Bali increasing, a new daily flight service has been added to the permanent schedule.

Air India now operates two direct routes between Bali and India. The new flight operates between New Delhi and Bali, and the inaugural flight was welcomed at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International with great fanfare. The arrival party was attended by officials from Bali Airport, Air India, and the Indonesian Immigration.

Speaking to reporters, the General Manager of Bali Airport, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, shared, “The number of foreign tourist arrivals continues to show positive growth. Throughout 2025, we recorded 438,646 Indian nationals entering through I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport.” This is an 8% increase on 2024, and Indonesia is on a mission to welcome more Indian tourists in 2026 and beyond.

Bali Senator Dr Somvir told reporters, “Previously, only one Air India flight arrived in Bali daily. Tofat this number officially increased to two due to the high demand from Indians visiting Bali. This new flight is a response to high demand.”

He added, “This is a great opportunity. Two Air India flights operate daily, making it easier for Balinese people to travel to India too. The relationship between Bali and India and the two countries will grow even closer.”

The new service is not only of benefit for Indian and Indonesian nationals but for all international travellers, especially long-haul travellers. Although direct flight connectivity to Bali is increasing, long-haul travellers from Europe, North America, South America, and many parts of Africa have to take a layover on their journey to Bali.

Typically, this layover is in Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, or Jakarta. Dubai and Abu Dhabi are popular choices too. With the new Air India daily flight service, long-haul travellers to Bali have yet another layover option, which can help break up the long journey and provide competitive airfare rates.

The new Air India flight is not the only new direct route between India and Bali to be added to the schedule at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International in recent weeks. In November, low-cost airline IndiGo launched a new daily Mumbai – Denpasar service.

Speaking to reporters, Shahab explained,  “We welcome the arrival of IndiGo Airlines, which now offers direct access from Mumbai to Bali. This route not only expands the international flight network at Ngurah Rai Airport but also strengthens tourism and economic ties between the two countries.”

It is not only the demand for travel to Bali from India that is growing, but from Australia too. In the last month, Jetstar launched a new three-times-weekly service between Newcastle and Bali.

This is the first time this route has been serviced directly, and the flight opens up a whole world of opportunity for travellers from Bali and from New South Wales.
