A new chapter for wellness travel and tourism is on the horizon in Bali.

As the island gears up to welcome the new Bali International Hospital and the official transformation of Sanur into a medical and wellness travel hub, wellness offerings are about to become even more innovative and exciting in Bali.

Bali is also preparing for its governorship elections. This regional election on November 27th will see the province choose a new governor, deputy governor, and new regents.

Candidates for Badung Regency, Wayan Adi Arnica and I Bagus Alit Sucipta, have been talking to constituents about developing a new tourism model called NEWA, which focuses on Nature, Eco-Tourism, Wellness Tourism, and Adventure.

They feel that this new model will help promote high-quality, high-value, and sustainable tourism and help spread tourism more evenly throughout the regency.

Arnawa told voters, “North Badung has great potential to be developed into a NEWA-based tourist destination. Meanwhile, in South Badung, there is already a unique tourism ‘euphoria’; North Badung also has opportunities that are no less interesting.”

One cultural highlight that could be promoted as part of a new NEWA-based tourism model in North Badung is the promotion of the subak.

Sucipta explained, “subak has extraordinary potential as a tourist attraction, which will also strengthen Bali’s cultural identity.”

The subak system is an agricultural irrigation system that is deeply connected to the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, as well as the water temples of Bali.

The story of the subak gives tourists an in-depth and intimate view of the Balinese cultural and physical landscape, and it is often cited as an undertapped resource when it comes to moving towards a more sustainable and eco-tourism model across the province.

The duo is also committed to uplifting local artists and artisans to help promote Balinese cultural tourism to the masses.

Arnawa explained, “We are committed to paying attention to artists in Badung as part of an effort to maintain the sustainability of culture-based tourism.”

Badung Regency is Bali’s most popular tourism region. The regency is home to destinations such as Kuta, Seminyak, Legian, Canggu, Uluwatu, and Jimbaran.

Wellness and eco-tourism are hot topics not only in Badung Regency. In Denpasar City and its beach resort of Sanur, wellness is the main conversation point.

Sanur, the brand name for the new Sanur Special Economic Zone (Sanur KEK), will be promoted as a destination for medical tourism, wellness tourism, and holistic health.

Sanur is keen to promote the destination to Australian tourists. With over 700,000 Australians visiting Bali every year, leaders want to see The Sanur as a destination that can help strengthen the special relationship between Bali and Australia.

To help get the word out about The Sanur, a promotional team attended the Indonesia Beach Festival at Bondi Beach in Sydney on 27th October. The initiative was met with a resoundingly positive response both as a medical tourism facility and a wellness destination.

Speaking to reporters, Fikri Mohammad Hakim, Sales and Marketing Group Head of The Sanur, explained “Visitors are very enthusiastic about the integrated medical & tourism services offered by The Sanur in Indonesia through The Beach activity.”

“It was recorded that more than 350 visitors came to The Sanur booth to find out about the services and facilities that will be available at KEK Sanur.”

“This is an important step to expand The Sanur’s reach to the international market and show that Indonesia is ready to compete in the global health industry.”

As a medical tourism destination The Sanur will feature the world-class Bali International Hospital, in addition to clinics run in partnership with medical teams from nine countries.

The resort will also be home to a selection of five-star hotels that will offer integrative services with the medical and wellness providers.

Visited the new hotel in "The Sanur" area. Unfortunately the new low rise hotel is located beside the old high rise hotel, resulting in unbearable strong winds making it hard to enjoy drinks outdoor at lower grounds. Obviously designed by someone not knowing much about airflow around tall buildings. Need to plant a lot of tall trees and add screens.
