The wait is finally over. Indonesia AirAsia’s new Melbourne-Bali service is now up and running.
The launch of the new direct Bali flight route was announced last year, and the inaugural service touched down in Denpasar on 21st March 2026.

The new Indonesia AirAsia service will be connecting Melbourne tourists to Bali with even greater ease and affordability. The route will operate daily from Melbourne and is set to offer tourists even more options to travel to the Island of the Gods throughout the year.
In a press statement, the Acting President Director of Indonesia AirAsia, Captain Achmad Sadikin Abdurachman, shared, “Melbourne is one of the most popular destinations for tourists, students, and business people from Indonesia, as well as a key market for Bali tourism. The opening of this route is an important step in our journey to strengthen our international network and expand our reach in the Asia & Australia region.”
Adding, as Indonesia AirAsia’s first international route, which will operate in 2026, this daily Denpasar–Melbourne service underscores our commitment to providing broader and more affordable connectivity between Australia and Indonesia, and even ASEAN. This initiative also strengthens the social and economic ties between the two countries, opens up opportunities for business collaboration, and provides greater access for travelers to explore unique cross-cultural experiences in both destinations.”
The Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Melbourne, Australia, Yohannes Jatmiko Heru Prasetyo, has also praised the new service for the impact it will have on tourists as well as the wider economy and relationship between Australia and Indonesia.
Prasteyo shared, “The opening of this direct route between Denpasar and Melbourne is a concrete step in strengthening the strategic partnership between Indonesia and Australia. In addition to increasing tourist flow, this connectivity will also expand cooperation in the economic, educational, and cultural sectors, as well as open up more opportunities for collaboration between the people of both countries.”
“With increased direct flight access, the Indonesia-Australia relationship will become even closer, with both countries benefiting mutually and benefiting the people of both countries.”
The flights will operate from Ngurah Rai International Airport, Denpasar (DPS), and Melbourne Airport (MEL), two of the biggest airports in their respective regions that serve as connectivity hubs to both domestic and international destinations.
This route opens up more onward travel options for Australian travelers to explore Indonesia’s top destinations, Jakarta, Balikpapan, Banjarmasin, and Labuan Bajo, which is also known as the gateway to Komodo National Park.

The Melbourne-Denpasar service operated on flight number QZ 411, departing Melbourne at 6 am daily, touching down in Bali at 8.35 am local time. The outbound service departs from Denpasar at 8.10 pm, arriving in Australia at 5 am local time, on flight number QZ 410.
Australian tourists are the most frequent international arrivals to Bali, and there are more than 120 flights a week from Australia to the province.

Jetstar is the busiest and most in-demand airline connecting Australians with Bali, closely followed by AirAsia. Virgin Australia comes in a commendable third, followed by Batik Air. In terms of full-service airlines, routes are served by Garuda Indonesia and Qantas.
Though it is demand for low-cost seats that keeps rising, with travelers increasingly less interested in full-service airlines. As noted by one passenger aboard the first Melbourne-Denpasar flight this weekend, “I don’t really care what time it’s at, I will get out of it in the cheapest flight.”

With the ongoing conflict in the Middle East still impacting global travel routes, all tourists traveling in and out of Bali are advised to ensure that they have fully comprehensive travel insurance as soon as they book flights.
Tourists must also keep a close eye on updates from both Bali Airport and their chosen airline, as flight changes are being made at a moment’s notice.
