North Bali is one of the least explored areas of the province. Home to dense jungles, hidden waterfalls, traditional fishing villages, temples, and stunning rolling coastal vistas, the ‘real’ Bali can be most easily connected to the north of the province.
As leaders look to direct holidaymakers to emerging destinations and crowd-free retreats, tourists are being gifted with the most incredible opportunity to embark on new adventures in the magical north of Bali.
Leaders in Buleleng Regency, Bali’s northernmost regency, are working to create more cultural attractions for tourists in the region.
The Head of the Buleleng Regency Tourism Office, Gede Dody Sukma Oktiva Askara, has confirmed that he and his teams are working on a ‘grand plan’ for cultural management to help connect tourists with the region’s heritage and cultural wonders.
He told reporters, “As a realization of this effort, we are collaborating with academics from the Hindu College of Religion to map ten cultural advancement objects in Buleleng Regency.”
By identifying and cultivating ten of North Bali’s most important cultural landmarks into tourist attractions, visitors have a wealth of travel wonders just waiting to be discovered in the north of the province.
Askara has suggested that these ten cultural objects of interest to tourists will include art, traditional architecture, folklore, spiritual practices, and connecting to local communities, as well as traditional sports.
He explained that the process creates two-way benefits for tourists and communities.
Askara explained, “Bali as a cultural-based tourism destination requires mapping and targeted studies so that tourism development in Buleleng can be run more planned and sustainably.”
He added, “The advancement of culture in Buleleng is not only about maintaining tradition but also ensuring that this culture remains alive and contributes to various aspects, both economic, social, and educational.”
For tourists and travelers, North Bali really ticks all the right boxes: crowd-free, offering opportunities for retreat and relaxation, as well as a deep connection to the culture and the land and plenty of opportunities for adventure, too.
Take a trip to Buleleng’s Munduk, for example. This dense tropical jungle highland hideaway is home to some of Bali’s most spectacular waterfalls. Want a day chasing waterfalls without seeing another soul in sight?
Muduk is the place to go. Start with Munduk Waterfall itself, also known as Red Coral Waterfall, before tarring onwards to Golden Valley Waterfall, Labuan Kebo Waterfall, and Melanting Waterfall to close the day.
Be sure to bring small cash notes with you, as entry to the waterfall trials is only accepted in IDR cases.
Of course, with the rainy season, be sure to pack your waterproofs and decent hiking shoes.
Although jumping around in flip-flops is fun, many of the hiking trails are muddy and slippery in the rainy season; this is the rainforest, after all!
