Who doesn’t love a Negroni? The smooth, sippable tipple made of equal parts gin, vermouth rosso, and Campari has had something of a renaissance in the international cocktail scene in the last five years.

Monday 16th September, marks the beginning of Negroni Week in Bali, an opportunity for tourists to experience some of Bali’s hottest cocktail bars and support local businesses along the way.

Negroni Week, launched by Imbibe Magazine in 2013, has become a much-loved event in the Bali nightlife calendar.

The event is now supported by OG founders Imbibe Magazine, Slow Food, and Campari as a collective effort to showcase the power of food, beverages, and hospitality.

Negroni Week is an international affair, and cocktail bars across Bali’s hottest destinations have all come on board to celebrate the iconic cocktail and bring good people together.

The Negroni is said to be first recorded in print in books penned in France in the 1920s; it appears inspired by the short cocktails of America popular at the time.

It should be noted that similar drinks were also being created in the swanky cocktail bars of Italy during this period and prior. Lots of national pride is at stake; no one really knows in cold, hard facts who created the Negroni, though the name has been traced back to Northern Italy.

The more modern Negroni Sbagliato is a firmly Italian creation. Sbagliatio, meaning ‘mistake,’ refers to mixologist and bar owner Mirko Stochetto, who mistook a bottle of gin for sparking wine when preparing a normal house negroni.

The mistake was a hit, with the cocktail now featured as a classic on menus around the world.

Negroni Week is celebrated from the 16th to the 22nd of September, and bars, lounges, and restaurants across Seminyak, Kuta, Canggu, Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, Ubud, and Sanur will all be taking part. In Canggu, much loved The Lawn will be bringing in Negroni Week in style.

Always one to be pushing the boundaries of style and luxe, The Lawn’s Neorgini Week cocktail menu brings together classic cocktail elements, some international elements, and a local twist or two, too.

The Lawn has created its very own Tropical Negroni featuring gin, strawberry Campari, and pineapple vermouth.

For a Balinese-inspired Negroni to be sipped at The Lawn, overlooking the Canggu sunset, be sure to order the Kaffir Lime Mericano, featuring Campari, sweet vermouth, and kaffir lime soda. Each is priced at IDR 140,000++.

Cocktail lovers on the lookout for something fresh and new from their Negroni should order the Frozen Yuzu Rosita; purists will call it Negroni-adjacent, as it is comprised of tequila, vermouth, Campari, and sauvignon blanc; it’s got something for everyone in there!

Over in Nusa Dua, Negroni Week will be celebrated in style…of course…it’s Nusa Dua!

At The St Regis Bali Resort, guests and diners will be able to order a selection of innovative and lovingly crafted Negronis.

St Regis will be serving a classic negroni with only the finest of ingredients and has added the Kula Negroni to the menu, too.

Featuring strawberry-infused gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth, the Kula is a creative option for those with a sweet tooth.

The Negroni Week menu is priced at IDR 220,000++ per cocktail and is available at Kayuputi Bar and St Regis Bar.

In Sanur, great value is on offer for serious negroni lovers who just can’t get enough.

The Fisherman’s Club at Andaz Bali, located overlooking the calm waters of Sanur, traditional jukung boats, and local fishermen coming home from a long day out on the ocean, guests enjoy two for one on classic Negronis.

The one-week-only special is available from 3 pm – 5 pm with classic negronis for IDR 165,00++. The Negroni mean also features the incredibly moreish Negroni 2.0, featuring Campari, coconut rum, sweet vermouth, and padan.

The lovable Negroni Sbagliato is also on the menu, and the utterly unique Floral Americano is made from Campari, Sweet Vermouth, and Elderflower Soda.
