A 40-year-old man from Denpasar named Owen Sunarto plans to host a swimming competition to support the Bali tourism sector during the pandemic.
During an interview on Wednesday (26/1), Owen admitted that the swimming event scheduled at Hardrock Hotel in Kuta was initiated to help the Bali tourism sector in light of the current economic crisis.
Owen challenged participants to beat his record by swimming over two hours without stopping. He promised to give winners a cash reward.
“An event called Non-Stop Bali Swimming Challenge will be held at Hardrock Kuta on Saturday (19/2) to revive the tourism sector in Bali. Anyone who beats my record will receive USD $350 (IDR 5 million) and an opportunity to stay at the hotel for one night,” Owen said.
He also mentioned that this event was supposed to be held in December 2021, but he postponed it due to the partial lockdown implementation.
Participants must register themselves through the Hardrock Hotel Facebook account and send a short swimming video to the officials. “This event is open for everyone, but we will only select the participants that meet our requirements,” Owen concluded.
Owen shared that he began swimming after his ankle was injured while playing basketball in early 2020.

TPTB are scared only when you show your anger and frustration. You can walk around, organize peaceful events and they will still DGAF. You guys want to get the economy back on track? It is time to grow a pair.

How does this benefit anyone other than Owen? I’m not sure how many hungry children are booking a lane.

@Randy, If you had not had a salary for 2 years how would you live , these people still have to pay for electricity and water if you don’t pay they cut of the service plus they have to somehow feed their families . I’m not sure after all this time you really grasp how bad the situation is for the Balinese people and how little support they have had from the government.
