A 23-year-old man named Muhammad Abdul Ghofur has been arrested for dismantling and stealing the tires of a parked car in Denpasar.
The Head of the West Denpasar Police Department, Kompol I Made Hendra Agustina, confirmed that Abdul was arrested two hours after they received a report from the victim.
“Two of the four tires were dismantled. The suspect replaced the tires with bricks to hold the car steady before finally leaving the location with his motorbike,” Kompol Agustina said on Sunday (6/2).
According to the police, the incident occurred when the victim named Gatot Priyotomo (aged 50) was warming up his car, which was parked in front of his house in Jalan Pulau Baru Bantanta, Denpasar on Friday morning (4/2).
The victim was shocked when he realized that two of his tires were already gone by 7:00 am. He decided to file a report to the police by 2:00 pm. By 4:00 pm, the police arrested the suspect from his boarding house in Jalan Pulau Yoni Pemogan, Denpasar.
“The suspect admitted that he did the illegal activity by himself with a wrench and car jack,” Kompol Agustina concluded.
The suspect also admitted that it was his first attempt to steal car tires, and he had planned to sell them to a local shop as he had been financially struggling.
