Officials in Bali have confirmed that some of the island’s busiest roads will be closed on New Year’s Eve.
The move comes to help control traffic in and out of the Kuta resort, reducing congestion and ensuring public safety.
The Head of Denpasar Traffic Police, Commissioner Made Teja Dwi Permana, spoke with reporters to confirm road closures will be in place on Sunday 31st December. He explained “Closing the flow of traffic accompanied by cleaning the road body from vehicle parking.”
Permana has confirmed that the road closures around Kuta will begin at 3 pm on Sunday. The traffic diversions and road closures will be in place from the Patih Jelantik intersection towards the Ground Zero Monument, along Jalan Legian towards the Jalan Melasti – Jalan Sri Wijaya intersection.

The next road closure will divert traffic from Japan Benesari towards Jalan Patimura. Traffic wishing to drive down Jalan Legian will also be diverted through Jalan Mataram and Jalan Majapahit.
Permana sadi “traffic flow towards Kuta will be closed and directed to Jalan Setiabudi. The road to the beach will also be closed and diverted down Jalan Raya Kuta.”
“People who want to go to the beach, please must park at Kuta Central Parking.”

The final set of diversions around Kuta will see the traffic flow down Jalan Bakung Sari diverted towards the Puseh Intersection.
Traffic headed to Jalan Kartika Plaza towards the beach will be sent via Jalan Tegal Wangi. Limited traffic will be permitted along Jalan Path Jelantik and Jalan Dewi Sri on a stop-go system to help reduce queues.
There will be sixty traffic police personnel who will be stationed throughout the Kuta Beach area dedicated to traffic control, in addition to dozens more security officers who will be on hand to help manage crowds and offer tourists and locals support.
Although the road closures will not come into effect until Sunday afternoon, tourists in the Kuta, Legian, and Seminyak areas are reminded to leave plenty of time if traveling by road over the coming days, even if only going short distances.

Traffic on the roads around Bali’s most popular resorts has intensified in recent days due to the huge surge in both international and domestic tourists.
The high volume of vehicles on the road has been causing delays on the Simpang Dewa Ruci Underpass.
Over the last few days at peak travel times vehicles have been bought to a crawling pace from both directions between Denpasar and Nusa Dua.
The Head of the Badung Transportation Service, AA Ngurah Rai Yuda Darma told reporters “This happens often every year. The traffic jam was caused by the increase in vehicle volume due to the Christmas and New Year holidays.”
“In addition, there are souvenir businesses on roads where the parking does not accommodate vehicles.”
He added “Authority on the road rests with the police, including towing which is their authority. Because we take action against traffic violations to help personnel and vehicles if necessary.”
Illegally parked vehicles, including motorcycles in the resort of Kuta, Legian, and Seminyak are especially likely to be towed or removed over the coming days, tourists are urged to park their rental vehicles responsibly and in proper parking spaces at all times.
Up in Ubud police officers are similarly on standby to manage traffic flow in the arts and culture capital of the island.
The Ubud Security Task Force is on 24-hour alert for the coming days to guarantee that tourists have a safe and comfortable experience in the town.
The Head of Gianyar Regency Transportation Service, Made Arianta, has said that 117 traffic officers have been deployed around the regency, the majority of whom will be stationed in Ubud itself.
Nevertheless, tourists are advised to take traffic congestion into account when planning day trips and other journeys across the island until the New Year.

"Tourists please take into account travel congestion when travelling in Bali until the New Year." How about being truthful media and authorities. Traffic congestion in Bali is a nightmare all year round. Add to that its chaotic its dangerous, lawless and also full of unlicensed helmetless local kids joyriding around like their at Mandalika raceway.

So there is a towing service in Bali. Why not deploy these on the road year long. In my area the locals use half of the lanes as part of their "business parking area". This as these cheapskates did not rent enough land for a proper business parking. One day a dude was sanding a cabinet halfway onto a busy road here. Is this the "local wisdom" I read about all the time.
As a consequence accidents and near misses happen all the time.
