A short video showing a foreign woman buck naked while crossing a street in Canggu has gone viral on social media, sparking a divisive discussion about respecting cultures and local customs here in Bali while also prompting local authorities to act.
The video, seemingly taken by a witness on the scene, captures two foreign women, one of whom was fully dressed while filming her friend, who was completely nude as she crossed a small street in Canggu. From the visible shop signs in the video, it appears to have been taken on Jalan Pantai Berawa.
The video has now been shared by multiple accounts across social media platforms, sparking a divisive discussion in which both foreigners and local residents are partaking.
“[People] like this should be arrested, fined, deported and banned from Indonesia for life. Without acting strictly we are just jokes to them.”
Local authorities are now on the case too, with the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) reportedly attempting to track the foreigners down.
I Gusti Agung Kerta Suryanegara, who heads Satpol PP in Badung told The Bali Sun that they are collecting more information.
“It’s disrupting order, which means it was inappropriate [and] not in accordance with our culture and nature. It’s causing a stir,” Suryanegara said.
