Leaders in Bali’s Canggu have committed to making the neighborhood feel more neat and tidy.
Over the last ten years, Canggu has undergone a massive surge of development, which has meant that some infrastructural elements of the community have become messy. You’ve guessed it—we’re talking about the cable situation.

The Regent of Badung, Wayan Adi Arnawa along with Deputy Regent Bagus Alit Sucipta, and Regional Secretary IB Bagus Surya Suamba, have come together to ceremoniously cut the unsightly power cables of Canggu.
Starting on Jalan Nelayan, the team is starting a regency-wide effort to deal with the messy and often dangerous overhead cables and power lines throughout Badung. The work will start in Canggu and the clean-up and required rewiring will eventually be carried out in other resort areas.
Regent Arnawa told reporters “We are here to witness the process of cleaning the overhead cables. Canggu is a priority because it is one of the main tourist destinations. This program will continue to run and be expanded to cover other areas, including the route from the Airport to Nusa Dua and Sunset Road.”
He added, “Although some of the roads targeted for development are national roads, we will coordinate with the central government so that this plan can be realized.”
Regent Arnawa confirmed that the work will also be carried out across Badung Regency including Jalan Dewi Sri, Kayu Tulang, and Seminyak where plans have already been arranged.
Regent Arnawa concluded “We hope that this effort will continue, because this is a big challenge in maintaining the tourism appeal of Badung.”
“With better infrastructure, the aesthetics of the area are improved, hopefully tourists who come will feel more comfortable. Badung Regency Government is committed to continuing to organize infrastructure to create a neater environment and support the tourism sector.”
Canggu is easily Bali’s busiest and most in-demand tourism resort right now, and it is vitally important that the infrastructural elements of the area are kept in good order for public safety.
Canggu’s Pererenan has been named the coolest neighborhood in the world in 2025 by TimeOut Magazine and this too has helped promote the area to a wider audience of tourists, travelers, and holidaymakers.
As Canggu continues to grow, the government will be investing more in developing the infrastructure support that the resort requires.
At present it is widely acknowledged that the development of the area has been unbalanced, with a huge boom in the private commercial development of hotels, resorts, beach clubs, restaurants, and shops, but that utility infrastructure as not kept up with the times.

Over the next three years the Bali Provincial Government and Badung Regency Government will be working on a series of major projects to help level up the area.
The cable situation may seem superficial but is hugely important. The next, more long term project that will help improve tourist experience of Canggu will be the West Gatsu Road.

As explained by the Regional Secretary IB Bagus Surya Suamba back in January 2025 the new road will help reduce traffic congestion on the roads that feed into Canggu both from the Seminyak side and the Tanah Lot side. The feasibility study is set to be completed in 2025 with work starting soon after.
Suamba told reporters “The construction of West Gatsu Road through Canggu as a continuation of the primary arterial road, which is currently not properly connected. This condition causes a narrowing which causes traffic jams on the Canggu-Tanah Lot road.”

Adding “We target the land acquisition process to be carried out in 2026. So that a year later, in 2027, hopefully, the physical construction of the road can be carried out.”
