The leader of a Bali community organization with initials I Gege BP has been reported to the police for extorting and damaging the property of a tourism business in Nusa Penida.
A 42-year-old man named Tjandra Jaya Kesuma from Denpasar reported the leader of a community organization to the police for extorting, threatening, and damaging his property near Diamond Beach, Nusa Penida.
Tjandra’s attorney, AA Made Eka Darmika, confirmed that his client decided to report the incident to the police as that man often threatened him and his workers.
“He also destroyed the fence that was built by my client on Sunday (13/2),” Darmika said. The man also extorted the owner by asking for 50 percent of his revenue as security fees.
Before leaving the scene, the man installed a banner in front of the property, saying that the land is still in dispute though Tjandra had legally bought the land and property since 2012.
Darmika asked authorities to act decisively towards this incident as it might harm Bali tourism’s reputation.
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations for the Bali Police Department, Kombes Pol Syamsi, has yet to make an official statement concerning this incident. “Please be patient. I need to check it out first. We will surely investigate any report that we have received,” Kombes Pol Syamsi stated.
