Java Jumping Out As Top Destination For Bali Holidaymakers Seeking Multi-Stop Vacation

The multi-stop vacation is going to be the most significant travel trend in Indonesia this year. Here at The Bali Sun, we have been loving this travel trend since late 2025, and we see it as one of the hottest travel vibes in 2026 and beyond.

With so much culture and such breathtaking natural wonders to discover, sticking to just one destination in Indonesia simply isn’t going to cut it in 2026.

Whether we’re staying in one province and exploring multiple areas, or whether we’re hopping from one region to another, one thing is clear…we’re keeping things moving in 2026.

Bali is a whole world of its own. As a province, Bali is one of the most unique travel destinations in the world. Dig a little deeper, and tourists will quickly discover that there are layers within layers of culture to learn about.

From the traditions of North Bali, to the rituals of communities along the east coast, from the farming practices of the central highlands, through the culinary wonders of the far west, every community, every village, every unsuspecting little jalan or gang (alleyway) has something inspiring and truly unique to share.

Moving into 2026, tourists planning trips to Bali will be hit with more promotion of other destinations around Indonesia. This is because the Ministry of Tourism wants to encourage tourists to start adopting the multi-stop vacation. For those who’ve not experienced this kind of vacation before, it may sound like a lot of hard work.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Domestic travel within Indonesia is easier and more affordable than ever, especially if seeking to connect to Indonesia’s Super Priority Destinations: Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Borobudur in Central Java, Mandalika in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara Province, Likupang in North Sulawesi, and Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara.

Tourists who want to experience a broad spectrum of Indonesian culture and nature should seriously consider coupling a vacation between Bali and Java. With such a deep cultural heritage to explore, it’s possible to spend a whole lifetime roaming these two islands and only feel like you’ve scratched the surface. That said, over a classic two-week vacation period, it is entirely possible to tick off Java’s bucket list destinations and dive into the wonders of beloved Bali.

The Bali-Java Vacation Combo is a tried-and-tested itinerary for both domestic tourists and international explorers.

With great long-haul flight connections to both Jakarta and Bali, the decision on where to start the adventure is primarily determined by flight prices at the time of booking. Sometimes it’s cheaper to fly into Jakarta, other times it’s more affordable to land in Bali and start the trip on the Island of the Gods.

In 2026, it is easier than ever to hop between Java and Bali. With daily flights in and out of Bali to Jakarta, Surabaya, Jember, Banyuwangi, Semarang, Solo, and Yogjakarta, tourists just have plenty of options to choose from.

It is also possible to cross between West Bali and East Java on the ferry. In fact, this is highlighted in the increasingly popular 3Bs Tour itinerary designed by the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism, which connects North Bali, West Bali, and Banyuwangi in East Java.

Mount Ijen in East Java

Top travel destinations can be found across the Java island. Since Java is so big, realistically, it’s best to pick two or three cities or regions to explore during the Java week of a fortnight vacation.

Here at The Bali Sun, we love Yogjakarta, Borobudur, and, of course, Jakarta will always have a special place in our hearts. For a little more of a nature-inspired Java vacation, visit destinations that include Mount Bromo, Mount Ijen, and the utterly magical Tumpak Sewu Waterfall.

Here at The Bali Sun, we’re backing North Bali as being one of the most important travel destinations in 2026; who’s up for chasing waterfalls in Bali’s Munduk and in East Java?!
