The coordinator of the presidential expert staff, Ari Dwipayana has said that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo fully supports the Bali Governor’s decision to reopen tourism for domestic tourists starting on Friday.
He added that since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, the President had been paying very special attention to Bali, whose economy is heavily reliant on tourism.
The Bali governments has prepared a three-phase plan for relaxing restrictions to welcome back tourists to the island. The first phase started on July 9 when the administration began reopening local businesses and tourist spots for residents of Bali.
The second phase was carried out Friday when the island reopened to domestic tourism from across Indonesia.
The third phase, which is reopening the border for international tourists, is set to start on Sept. 11. Tourists are holding their breath around the world waiting for the green light from the Indonesian President that the international reopening will go ahead.
Bali Governor Wayan Koster has said that the only thing that could hold it back is a large surge in Covid-19 cases.
“I ask all Bali manners to carry out activities in these three stages by applying the New Era of Life Order Protocol in an orderly, disciplined, and with a full sense of responsibility, such as: always wearing a mask / face shield, keeping a distance, not crowding, diligently washing hands, and Clean and Healthy Behavior,” Koster said.
In a surprising announcement last week, the World Health Organization said “Bans on international travel cannot stay in place indefinitely, and countries are going to have to do more to reduce the spread of the novel coronavirus within their borders”
As of Thursday, Bali has recorded 3,360 cases of COVID-19 with 2,788 recoveries and 48 fatalities.
